A neighbor gathered her seeds and gave me some, she has very beautiful flowers, a mixture of different colors. Once upon a time, these grew at my grandmother, and she did not even plant them. Once the wind brought the seeds, and then every year they sprouted themselves. And what can I do, now you can plant or wait until spring? And in the spring you need to grow seedlings or can you sow them right on the street?

Its beauty is discreet, but it has a special charm thanks to its delicate fluffy foliage and numerous bright inflorescences. The decoration of each garden will be a cosme, planting and care in the open field, which practically do not require the attention of a grower. You just need to sow the seeds once, and all subsequent years you will admire the continuous flowering of the cosmos until late autumn. The plant is extremely unpretentious. It can grow and bloom vigorously where most horticultural crops can barely survive.

The flower belongs to the Asteraceae family, but there is nothing particularly complicated in it. The absence of special requirements for growing conditions and a charming appearance during flowering make the cosmea a welcome guest in the flower bed. Its bushes are quite tall, 1-1.5 m, but at the same time they look elegant. They have an almost airy crown formed from numerous thin shoots and decorated with original foliage. The leaf plates are small, feathery and very similar to dill. All summer and until October, until frost hits, cosmeya blooms vigorously. The flowers are large enough, about 9-10 cm in diameter, collected in baskets. The color is dominated by white, pink, purple and yellow.

By its nature, culture is perennial. But on the territory of our homeland it grows like an annual, because it does not tolerate winter frosts.

Undoubtedly, sulfur-yellow and double-feathery cosmees will be annual, they are grown by seed. They also reproduce well by self-seeding. And here chocolate kosmeya forms tuberous roots that can be dug up and stored for the winter, like dahlias. True, they do not lie well and most often disappear until spring. Therefore, the chocolate variety is easier to seed with.

You can sow seeds in one of the following ways:

• in the last decade of April, immediately into open ground;
• for seedlings in early April (not worth it before - the seeds sprout quickly and the seedlings develop rapidly).

Flowers love the sun, so set aside a well-lit flower bed for them. It is desirable that it is not blown by the wind. Otherwise, the bushes may break, and you will have to tie up, especially tall species. A certain paradox has been noticed regarding the composition of the soil. The lighter and less fertile the soil is, the faster it develops and the earlier the kosmeya blooms. But on nutritious black soil, the bushes bloom later and give less buds.

How to care for cosmos in the garden

Caring for an unpretentious plant is minimal. If the soil is very poor, you can add compost in the spring to help the cosme grow a lush crown. Water it sparingly - the flower tolerates drought well, but is very afraid of waterlogging. Cosmeya does not need to be formed, it is already beautiful.It will be enough to cut off the faded inflorescences - then there will be even more new flowers.
