Diseases of apple trees in the photo and methods of their treatment

View of a healthy tree and fruit Rust on the leaves of the apple tree, as well as other defects on various parts of the plant, indicate the presence of a disease. If such symptoms are found, urgent action should be taken.

Varieties of apple diseases

Today there are a very large number of apple tree diseases. The most common are the following varieties:

  • black cancer;
  • scab;
  • powdery mildew;
  • fruit rot.

Each disease is dangerous in its own way. When the slightest signs of disease appear, you must immediately start treating the plant.

Black cancer

Black rot on fruits

Diseases of apple trees and their treatment (photos can be found on the Internet) are very diverse. The most common is "black cancer". A similar disease can be identified by the following symptoms:

  • the appearance of black spots on the leaves - their number and size are growing every day;
  • the presence of black rot on fruits;
  • darkening of the tree bark, the appearance of multiple cracks on its surface, its turning in the opposite direction.

Treatment of black apple cancer must be carried out with bordeaux liquid - it treats the affected areas on the trunk. But this operation must be performed only after the trees have flowered. In order to avoid the appearance of a disease of this kind, it is worth carrying out preventive work. This will make it possible to preserve a maximum of plants.

Black spots on the leaves of the apple tree cannot be eliminated, but you can simply prevent their appearance:

  • fight small pests;
  • fertilize and disinfect the soil appropriately.

Often, this kind of measures becomes enough to prevent black cancer from infesting the tree. If there are any plants on the site that were nevertheless affected by this disease, it is necessary to cut off the black areas of the bark and branches, and then burn them outside the site.

Scab

Scab on the leaves of apple treesOne of the most frequent questions gardeners ask: scab on an apple tree - how to deal with it? This disease is quite simple to define. It appears almost immediately after the plant is infected. The first sign of infection is rust on the leaves of the apple tree. If possible, it is necessary to start fighting the disease as quickly as possible.

This type of disease is the most common fungus. It is possible to save a tree only in case of timely detection of places of infection. If you start the disease too much, then you can say goodbye to the plant. It is best to familiarize yourself with the signs of apple disease in advance from a photograph.

The fight against this type of disease should begin in early spring and be carried out using the Topaz composition as follows:

  • the substance is diluted in a ratio of 2 ml per 10 liters;
  • even before flowering, the tree trunk is processed with this composition;
  • after flowering, the plant also needs to be processed.

You can also use Hom instead of Topaz. It should be diluted at 40 g per 10 liters of water and sprayed on the stem of the plant before and after flowering. Colloidal sulfur, which is diluted in an amount of 80 g per bucket of water, also gives excellent results. It is very important not to overdo it with the compositions indicated above. This can burn the bark and foliage.

Powdery mildew

Damage to a tree with powdery mildewA disease such as powdery mildew is dangerous because it damages young shoots and buds of an apple tree.

Apple leaf disease of this type is characterized by an extremely rapid spread.A tree under the influence of the fungus that causes the disease can die in literally one month. It also often happens that the mycelium survives a cold winter in the trunk of a plant and, after a thaw, begins to act with renewed vigor, destroying the fruit tree from the inside.

To treat apple trees from a disease of this type, the following drugs can be used:

  • "Topaz";
  • "Speed".

The compounds in question should be diluted in a quantitative ratio of 2 mg for every 10 liters of water. In this case, the treatment is best carried out with a special spray bottle in early spring, before flowering. After that, without fail, it will be necessary to process the tree with copper chloride, for which a drug called "Hom" is perfect. It should be diluted in an amount of 40 g per bucket of water.

Sometimes, after performing the above actions, the plant visually looks normal, there are no signs of the disease on it. It is imperative to collect all the fruits. To minimize the likelihood of a relapse of the disease, you should also perform treatment with Bordeaux liquid - a solution of 1%. A solution of copper sulfate is also perfect. It should be mixed in an amount of 50 g per bucket of water, while adding 20 g of liquid soap.

Fruit rot

Fruit rotWhy do apple leaves turn yellow in June? The reason for this may be the most common fruit rot. It affects not only the apples themselves, but also the leaves. However, the main sign of the presence is the presence of severe damage to the fruit.

This type of disease is the most dangerous, since its presence can be detected only after the end of the flowering process, when damaged fruits are found.

Fighting fruit rot is quite difficult - it damages apples even before they ripen. The best way out of the situation is to simply prevent the onset of the disease.

It is quite simple to do this: you should carry out preventive treatment with a conventional nitrafen emulsion - this substance is diluted in an amount of 200 g per 10 liters of water.

The following drugs are also excellent for combating a disease of this type:

  • DNOC - 200 g for every 10 liters of water;
  • suspension of colloidal sulfur - 100 g for every 10 liters of water.

The apple is 100% rottenAnother way to minimize the likelihood of a disease of the type in question is to collect all rotten fruits and destroy them systematically. This operation should be performed daily. Dispose of apples as far from the site as possible. It is advisable not to bury them in the ground and not throw them away, but simply burn them. This way you can completely destroy the pathogenic fungus that leads to the appearance of rot.

To avoid a situation in which the leaves on the apple tree become covered with brown spots, various kinds of preventive work should be performed.

First of all, these include inspection of the tree trunk. The barrel should be as flat as possible, the presence of any cracks and other defects is not allowed. This also applies to leaves and fruits. Even if the symptoms of any diseases appeared only on one or two leaves or apples, the entire set of measures should be taken to disinfect the plant. Perhaps this will save him from death.

It is quite difficult to grow an apple tree, despite the unpretentiousness of most of its varieties. That is why it is necessary to closely monitor its condition as closely as possible. Since with untimely treatment for the diseases described, you can lose not only the crop, but also the tree itself.

    Hello! Apple is the third year on the leaves of spots, please tell me what it is and how (how) to treat the tree?

    • Natali

      Severe scab damage. It is necessary to carry out chemical treatment in early spring and late autumn. Use the drug Topaz or Hom.Some gardeners use coloid sulfur, but you need to be careful with the concentration.

    Good day! There are several apple trees of different ages on the site. But every year the same trouble: the edges of the leaves begin to dry. Then the whole sheet dries and falls off (see photo). This year we have added potassium fertilizers. I hoped that the process would stop, but nothing happened. It dries as before. Tell me what to do?

    • Helena

      I also have the same problem with Apple tree, can someone help

    • Natali

      Your trees should be treated with Topaz or Hom in early spring. It looks like being hit by a scab. In any case, this is a fungal infection.

    Hello. The apple tree is the fourth year. Last year, one branch did not develop well, and in the spring it did not bloom at all, it dried up, we cut it. And again one branch does not develop well. The leaves are small, do not grow anymore, the apples are set, but smaller in size than on other branches. What can it be and what to do?

    • Natali

      This is most likely internal worm damage. You can try to find the entrance and kill the pest. I took a thin wire and gradually introduced it into the hole. I managed to kill the worm itself. Next, a Bordeaux 1% mixture was injected with a syringe. This is to kill the larvae. The tree was saved and is already bearing fruit.

    Hello! The apple tree was planted last year. In this, all the leaves turned brown. Tell me how to treat an apple tree?

  5. Natalia

    Hello! Tell me what is the problem with a young apple tree? And how to treat?

  6. Gennady

    On a columnar apple, the leaves turn pale. One has already died, the leaves turned pale last year, this did not bloom, now the second is ill. Help me please.

    • Natali

      The tree is severely iron deficient. If left untreated, the tree will die. Treat with iron chelate once a week.

  7. Natalia

    Hello! Looking forward to your reply

    • Natali

      Your apple tree is affected by brown spots and needs fungicide treatment. In late autumn, after the foliage has fallen, process it with copper or iron sulfate. In the spring, before bud break, treat again with the same solution. Use a 3% solution.

    Hello, just now I realized that 3 apple trees fell ill with powdery mildew, they don't grow, they don't develop, they are three years old. Is it possible to save them now, in the summer? Can you sprinkle topaz only in spring?

    • Natali

      Try a safe baking soda solution. For 10 liters of water take 4 tbsp. l with a slide of baking soda. Add liquid soap or plain soap solution to the solution.

  9. Irina

    Thanks for your reply, I will definitely do it.
    And in the fall, Bordeaux liquid or copper sulfate is also needed, and about when?

    • Natali

      Carry out processing in the fall when the air temperature is 6-8 degrees Celsius and all the leaves fall off. In the spring, carry out the treatment before bud break. Collect and burn the fallen leaves.

  10. Natalia

    Thank you so much

  11. Natalia

    Hello, tell me what kind of disease or pest on a young apple tree? Thank.

  12. Vladimir

    Help to deal with the disease on the apple tree. dark brown spots have gone along the trunk and branches, dark paths are visible when cut.

    • Natali

      This is the worm's job. In such cases, I clear the passage and try to find the pest with a thin wire. Then I inject a solution of copper sulfate with a syringe. After that, I process the wounds with garden varnish or a clay mash. It may be necessary to carry out such an operation in several places. I managed to save the tree and harvest this year.

  13. Sergey Mal

    On the apple trees I found large black spots, as if these places were set on fire. It turned out that we were visited by a black cancer. Today, March 21, I cut these branches, there are some spots on the cuts. Not black, but spots. What's this? Is the tree completely infected, or is it okay? I have not found the answer anywhere on the Internet.

    • Natali

      Unfortunately your tree is completely infected. The apple tree will either dry out on its own, or you will have to remove it.

  14. Helena

    On our site two years ago, apple trees fell ill. The trees are mature, so for various serious reasons there was no time to take care of them. Can you please tell me if there is still hope to save the trees this year in early spring? two years do not give a crop. The last very bountiful harvest was in 2016.

  15. Alexander

    Hello! I ask for your help and advice on how to deal with the disease (pictured). How can you help a tree in spring?

    • Natali

      Your tree has cancer. To preserve the garden, it is necessary to remove this tree and carefully treat the garden with copper sulfate.

      • Alexander

        Is it useless to treat? The apple tree last year for the first time gave a very good harvest of beautiful apples ... It's a pity ...

  16. Alexander

    I cut off the heavily affected trunk, cleaned it of lichen, tried to cut out cancerous lesions, coated it with garden varnish, wrapped it with food plastic wrap. Do you think it will survive?

    • Natali

      Of course, you always have to fight for the plant. Watch the tree. If you see new lesions, then you will need to say goodbye to the plant. A diseased tree may even bear fruit for several years, but they are getting smaller and smaller every year. Then fruiting stops and the tree dies.

    The apple tree is 4 years old, this year the leaves began to bloom at first, buds with flowers appear, then the leaves curl sharply and the buds and leaves dry - the apple tree disappears, what to do?

    • Olga

      There can be many reasons, from a banal lack of moisture and nutrients, to the appearance of pests. So, if the leaves are dull and with a bluish tinge - there is not enough potassium, when the growth point dies off and pale leaves - there is a lack of calcium on the face. Light green foliage indicates a lack of nitrogen, a reddish tint indicates a phosphorus deficiency. You just need to feed the tree with the necessary trace element. If pests appear, only insecticide treatment will help. In this case, it should be carried out after flowering.

  18. Vladimir

    On many apple trees, leaves did not sprinkle on me even in January and in frost. I carry out chemical treatments since spring, then after flowering I try biological ones. In the fall, I spent an eradication with a high content of ferrous sulfate and urea after which everything should crumble. And it seems to me that this is not related to treatments. What could be the reason?
