Features of Phalaenopsis Kaoda - an amazing black orchid

Tell us, what are the features of Kaoda's phalaenopsis? I got a very young bush that barely managed to form a small rosette. It would be interesting to know how it blooms.

features of the caoda orchid Who among us does not like chic orchids, with their stunning buds of delicate or richly bright colors and long flowering ... But among them there is a real unique plant with flowers that you will not see in other varieties. This is what makes the Kaoda Phalaenopsis one of the most luxurious orchids.

Kaoda is considered a separate species of the family, and all thanks to the original and almost unreal color. These phalaenopsis were obtained artificially and are better known as black orchids.

Features of Phalaenopsis Caoda

black Orchid

The large flowers seem to be black, although no such gene exists in nature in epiphytes. In fact, Kaodas are called orchids with a very dark color: burgundy, purple or lilac. The contrast, which gives the impression of black, is especially emphasized by the virgin white forked lip. There may also be a thin white border around the edge of the petals.

In addition to the dark color, the following signs are characteristic of Kaoda's phalaenopsis:

  • the height of the stem does not exceed 20 cm, but it is practically invisible under the leaves;
  • the leaves themselves are oval, dark green with a noble gloss, up to 25 cm long with a maximum width of 10 cm;
  • each rosette usually produces two peduncles growing from the leaf axils, each of which has about a dozen buds;
  • flowers are distinguished by their regular shape and rounded opaque petals of a very dense structure;
  • in most hybrids, flowers emit a delicate aroma.

Phalaenopsis Caoda, with proper care, can bloom all year round, since it does not have a dormant period. At the same time, one peduncle lives and gradually opens new buds for six months.

Types of black orchids

Kaoda has several subspecies, differing in basic shades:

  1. Chocolate drops. Flowers up to 7 cm in diameter smell nice, the petals are dark purple in color, surrounded by a thin white border. The lip is large and white. In this case, the leaf plates are noticeably shorter - a maximum of 15 cm in length.kaoda chocolate drops
  2. Twinkle. A larger hybrid with leaves up to 25 cm long, but without aroma. The color of the flowers is dominated by a rich burgundy color.kaoda twinkle

All Phalaenopsis Caoda are grown in our home. Care for them is the same as for other varieties of epiphytes. Black orchids grow best in pine bark or coconut chips. It is advisable to choose a pot transparent and every 2 years transplant socket.

Plants do not need winter rest and feel good during this period at a temperature of about 18 ° C. In summer, it is advisable to observe the difference between day and night temperatures of at least 5 °. High air humidity, moderate watering, good, but diffused, lighting and regular fertilizing will guarantee long and abundant flowering.
