A bouquet of roses - how to keep it fresh longer
Perhaps there are no women who are indifferent to roses. Magnificent buds of the most varied colors, proudly rising on a slender stem and emitting a delicate noble aroma - what could be more beautiful than this sight? The only disappointment they bring is a short "life" after cutting, but true connoisseurs of these flowers know how to preserve roses, and are happy to share their secrets. So what can you do to keep the roses in the vase for as long as possible?
The following factors play a decisive role:
- "Correct" vase;
- "Special" water;
- preparation of flowers.
In which vase is it better to put roses?
The choice of vase depends on the height of the bouquet. You need to focus on the length of the stem: the longer it is, the higher the capacity should be. After dipping into a vase roses should be at least half in the water, so it is worth giving preference to tall, elongated dishes, while the neck should be wide enough so that the flowers are not crowded.
Roses will stand for the longest time in ceramic vases, because they "hide" them from the light, and the water will not deteriorate so quickly, but it is better to refuse from transparent containers such as crystal vases.
How to improve water quality?
For a bouquet, it is necessary to pour the settled water into a vase. In winter it should be at room temperature, in summer it is better to cool it slightly. To make the roses last longer, add to the water:
- an aspirin tablet;
- activated carbon tablet;
- vinegar and sugar (1 tbsp. l. for each liter of liquid).
The first two ingredients will disinfect the liquid and prevent bacteria from growing, while the last two will nourish the flowers.
We put the bouquet in the vase correctly
Having brought bouquet home, you need to immediately release it from the packaging and prepare the roses. To do this, lowering the tips of the cuttings into the water, cut the shoots obliquely (you can also cut them across). This must be done in water, without reaching for the flowers, so that air does not get into the cut, and plugs do not form, which will block the access of oxygen to the roses.
Another important point: all leaves that may be submerged in water should be torn off so as not to cause premature decay of flowers.
Where to place the vase?
It goes without saying that on the table near the south window the sun will quickly "shorten" the life of the roses, so for the vase you need to find the darkest place in the house (the pantry has nothing to do with roses). It is desirable that it be cool there, since heat acts on flowers similarly to the sun.
Every two days, the water must be changed by adding the above components to the vase. You should also update the cuts on the flowers and spray them.
By resorting to these little tricks, you can extend the life of the bouquet and admire it for some more time.
