Burgundy Grape Liquid: How to Prepare and How to Apply

How is burgundy liquid used for grapes? The shrub is often affected by downy mildew and is saved only by treatment with copper sulfate. But this year I missed the moment in early spring - I didn't manage to come to the dacha. Now the grapes are already covered in leaves, I'm afraid to burn. A friend advised me to replace vitriol with this mixture, he says it has a milder effect, but is just as effective. How to prepare it and when can you spray it?

burgundy liquid for grapes No crop is completely resistant to all diseases, especially grapes. Rotten bunches, black spots or white bloom on the leaves force you to quit all business and save the plants. Burgundy grape liquid can help you get rid of problems or protect plants from disease. Moreover, unlike expensive fungicides, this tool is several times cheaper. It is also safe for grapes, and even serves as a top dressing to some extent. The only caveat is that the proportion should be exactly observed, since you will have to prepare the drug yourself.

Burgundy Grape Liquid: Making the Mix Right

The components you need are easy to find in gardening stores and are inexpensive. These are just two drugs: copper sulfate and soda (preferably soda ash). For processing plants, including grapes, a 1% solution should be prepared. For this you need:

  1. Heat 5 liters of water and dilute 100 g of copper sulfate in it.
  2. Dissolve 100 g of soda separately in the same amount of liquid.
  3. Little by little, constantly stirring, combine both solutions, pouring vitriol into the soda.

The solution cannot be stored! It must be used within 24 hours.

The resulting mixture will be bluish in color and should be neutral in acidity. Before processing the grapes, it is advisable to check again whether the concentration is not violated. If there is no special litmus paper, a regular nail will do, but not rusty. It must be dipped into the liquid: if a copper coating forms on the nail, then there is too much vitriol. With this tool, you can burn the leaves - you need to dilute it with another soda solution.

If it is recommended to treat plants with copper sulfate before bud break, then this remedy can also be applied on the leaf. Soda neutralizes the caustic effect of the main substance and it does not cause burns (if the required concentration is observed).

When can grapes be processed

spraying grapesThe mixture can be applied both in early spring, on the buds, and at the beginning of the growing season. For prevention, shrubs should be treated when the leaves begin to bloom, before and after flowering. In case of illness, it is important to carry out the last spraying one month before harvest.

It is impossible to mix Burgundy liquid with other preparations - the solution will be "taken" in flakes. Unless you add a little liquid soap for better adhesion.

What diseases is the copper-containing mixture used against?

mildew on grapesSince the active ingredient of the drug is copper sulfate, it accordingly has a similar effect. Burgundy liquid prepared in strict proportions will help in the prevention and treatment of such vineyard diseases:

  • bacterial necrosis;
  • mildew;
  • black spot (phomopsis);
  • alternaria;
  • rot of various types;
  • anthracnose;
  • cercosporosis.

When processing with a Burgundy mixture, it must be borne in mind that it does not stay on the leaves for a long time and will be washed off with the first rain. But it does not leave behind such a raid as Bordeaux liquid. If necessary, the shrub can be sprayed again.
