What to plant in a flowerbed in the shade?

Remained in my dacha "out of business" one area, where the sun is not often and not for long. I don’t know what kind of flowers will take root there. Tell me what is better to plant in a flowerbed in the shade so that the plants do not wither?

When arranging a flower bed in the shade, it is necessary to take into account what species the plants belong to, as well as the composition of the soil in the flower bed, the level of humidity. It is very important to determine the degree of shading of the front garden, that is, how intense and long-lasting the light of the sun is. If there is also a tree in the flowerbed, this must also be taken into account, because it will give an additional shadow.

Plants for flower beds in the shade are of two types:

• shade-loving - they grow better in the shade, and in the sun the leaves get burns (fern, periwinkle);
• shade-tolerant - it would not hurt them to add sunlight for normal development, but they will not disappear in the shade either (viola, astilba).

Flowers for deeply shaded areas

This can be a flower bed under trees or near the northern walls of buildings. If the area is not very humid, it is good to plant bulbous crops (snowdrops, tulips, daffodils) there. Their flowering period will come before the crown of the tree takes shape.

The fern is absolutely independent of the sun. It will create a wonderful volumetric green background for flowering plants.

A perennial hosta with green or blue leaves will also feel good here. She is not afraid of frost, and is unpretentious in care. It is not recommended to plant hostas with decorative variegated leaves in such areas so that they do not become monochromatic.

Under the dense crowns of fir trees, you can easily grow a clefthoof - the color of the leaves does not change even in winter and covers the flowerbed with a beautiful green rug. Periwinkle has the same properties. But if you grow it for flowers, not leaves, it is advisable to give it a little more sun and plant the periwinkle in a moderately dark place.

Plants for semi-shaded flower beds

In partial shade, a daylily will take root, which just needs diffused lighting - it will not disappear completely without the sun, but it will not bloom much either, but will give all its strength to the leaves.

Perennial irises can be planted next to daylilies, which are suitable for any soil.

Even if there are stones on the flower bed, you should not remove them - blue forget-me-nots will completely braid the stones and create a unique landscape.

A dense cover will cover the flowerbed and Ayuga - it is not at all demanding in care.

Perennial handsome phloxes will be a bright spot on a shady flower bed. In addition, they delight with their flowering from mid-summer to autumn. And if the dry weather gets to this flower bed, she still will not overcome phlox. As well as winter frosts.

To create a background, pink hearts of a gorgeous dicenter are well suited. The bush is quite large - about a meter in height, so it is better to plant it in the background, so as not to cover the undersized plants.
