Help save the plant: I have Fittonia in the aquarium, it lives there for only two months. I decided to experiment, the landing was successful. I was worried about how she would endure full immersion in water, but the bush took root in a new place. True, new shoots have not yet been seen, but the first problem has appeared. I noticed that the trunk began to rot. With what it can be connected? I sin on the lamp, it burned out, but while I ordered and waited for the delivery of a new one, the aquarium was lit only naturally. Maybe that's why the flower dies?

Fittonia takes the first place among decorative - deciduous indoor plants in beauty. However, it is also the leader as the most capricious and demanding culture. Perhaps for this reason, fittonia grows in an aquarium for many gardeners. This is one of the most optimal ways to fully meet the increased moisture requirements of the bush. However, “aquatic life” has its own characteristics and imposes new obligations.

What is Fittonia

A perennial from the acanthus family will delight you with magnificent forms and variegated colors. Fittonia grows in the form of branchy bushes, most species have creeping shoots, and the height is compact. The exception is the giant fittonia with a height of more than 0.5 m with erect branches.

Although the bushes bloom with proper care, they are not grown for this at all. Their flowers are small, gray-yellow or brownish, and do not cause much delight. But foliage is a real pride and a distinctive feature of Fittonia. Variegated velvet leaves, pleasant to the touch, grow densely on fragile juicy twigs. They are covered with a fancy mesh with a contrasting color or brightly traced veins.

There are varieties with bright green leaves and white netting. Views look gorgeous with a dark green leaf plate, on which pink-red or purple streaks appear. And a bush with olive-yellow foliage and a red net looks quite a curiosity.

Not many growers take up the cultivation of Fittonnia due to its capricious nature. The plant does not tolerate any changes in conditions of detention and has high requirements for moisture. On the other hand, the bush immediately reacts to waterlogging by rotting the root system. Some species cannot survive at all in room conditions, especially in winter, during the heating season, for example, the same giant fittonia. The only way out for her is to live in an aquarium.

Capricious bushes feel very good in aquariums, where the humidity is not only high, but also stable. At the same time, they can grow in several ways:

• completely submerged in water;
• only the roots are in the water, and the aboveground part is above the water.

In the latter case, the situation is somewhat simpler. A stable level of moisture in the soil meets the needs of the root system. And water vapor within the aquarium does not allow the air to dry out.

But if Fittonia is completely immersed in water, it is important to prevent it from rotting. In this form, it will develop more slowly, but it is quite normal. First of all, already grown bushes with a strong root should be used for planting in the aquarium. In addition, the plant needs good lighting. Fittonia in shade will quickly rot and disappear.And the last nuance: when cleaning the aquarium, you should not disturb the bush. Any mechanical damage, especially injury to the stem, will lead to decay.
