Phlox red and pink are some of the most popular species of this crop. Saturated fiery colors become a real highlight of the flower bed. But delicate pink colors, barely noticeable or playing with bright colors, it is beneficial to emphasize the rest of the flowers. They look especially beautiful against the background of white inflorescences and just among the greenery. Thanks to the work of breeders, there is a huge selection of phlox varieties today. But we decided to focus on red and pink phlox. We bring to your attention a small selection of the best varieties of this color range. They look great in single plantings, and also fit well into group compositions with conifers, daylilies, dahlias.
Red phlox varieties
Bright lush inflorescences of red phlox immediately attract attention. Their color can be monochromatic or have an additional shade in the form of a ringlet inside the flowers. But in any case, such flowers are difficult to miss.
Some of the most beautiful red phlox are the following varieties:

Phlox Ogonek
The variety is resistant to diseases, in particular fungal diseases. Able to set seeds.
Phlox Gorislav
"Comfortable" bush no more than 60 cm in height blooms in July. It stands out against the background of other phlox with its large pyramidal inflorescences. They are lush, composed of densely spaced red flowers next to each other. In the center, you can see a small ring of crimson color, passing into the petals with thin pink rays. As you can see in the photo of phlox Gorislav, the petals themselves are peculiarly slightly twisted inside the flowers. This makes them look like stars.
Phlox Marie
The plant is an average of 65 cm high. With good care it can grow up to 80 cm. The stems are straight, the bush does not disintegrate. Inflorescences are dense, hemispherical, bloom in July. Bright scarlet monochromatic flowers have a diameter of 3.5 cm and do not fade in the sun.
Phlox Little Red Riding Hood
A fairly tall bush (95 cm) with straight stems has a slightly loose crown. Blooms in mid-summer in rounded inflorescences. The flowers are calm, even red color. The diameter of each is at least 3.7 cm, or even all 4 cm.
The variety is resistant to winter frost and disease, but the dew spoils the inflorescences a little.
Phlox Tenor
A medium-sized variety, the height of the bush is 60-90 cm, in the fertile penumbra phlox grow up to 1.2 m. The shoots are strong, do not decay, due to which the bush keeps its shape well. Narrow leaves are located along the entire height of the upright stem.
Panicled Tenor attracts attention with large inflorescences. Their diameter can be up to 30 cm. The flowers are also large enough, painted in a rich red-crimson color. The middle of the flower has a carmine eye. The petals on the back are lighter, pink-white. Since the second half of summer, phlox decorates the site, carrying a delicate pleasant aroma through it. The intense color of the Tenor does not fade in the sun and remains the same bright until the end of flowering.The variety looks great in bouquets. The tenor is not demanding regular watering, winters well.
Some growers, growing this variety, argue that the color of phlox inflorescences is not red, but purple-pink. Perhaps it depends on the growing conditions.
However, the majority still share two types of phlox: The reddish tenor is called the Russian version. A flower with a purple color is simply called in English Tenor phlox.
Varieties of pink phlox
One of the most numerous species is pink phlox. Their color is one of the most diverse. Depending on the cultivar, the pale pink hues can fade into a deeper color. The darkest inflorescences, shining with raspberry or salmon shine, also look spectacular. A delicate combination of pink and white tones will delight fans of a calm color palette.

Phlox Flamingo
One of the varieties with an even and uniform color that fully justifies its name. Its flowers are delicate pink, the only thing is that the core is darker, crimson. Inflorescences are of decent size, pyramid-shaped, semi-friable. The bush blooms around mid-July, but bloom for a long time, until the beginning of autumn. The buds are also large - the diameter of each flower is about 3.7 cm.The bush itself is not very high, up to 80 cm.
Phlox Pastoral
A very delicate variety with large flowers and large pyramidal inflorescences. Although they are loose, they consist of large flowers with a diameter of 4 cm. The color is bright, but at the same time not flashy. Around the carmine core, a white ring is “put on”, smoothly turning into pink. Pastoral blooms in the second decade of July, while it does not bloom for a long time, just over a month. The bush is compact, no higher than 65 cm in height.
Phlox Aida
The average height of the bush is 60 cm, but with proper care it can reach 90 cm. Strong erect shoots are covered with dark green foliage. From the second decade of July, dark pink flowers with a carmine core begin to bloom. They are medium in size, collected in a pyramidal inflorescence. By the end of flowering, they turn purple.
Phlox Salmon Glow
The bush grows up to 90 cm, but it keeps its shape rather weak. In July, beautiful oval inflorescences bloom on the tops of the stems. They consist of medium-sized salmon-colored flowers. The middle of the flower is white, beautifully and smoothly turns into the main color. The reverse side of the petals is also light.
The variety is characterized by medium resistance to major flower diseases. It also grows relatively slowly.
Phlox Claudia
A completely compact bush is distinguished by densely leafy stems and large rounded inflorescences. They bloom in early summer. The flowers are bright pink, large, with a diameter of 4 cm. Phlox grows quickly and looks great in the foreground of the flower bed.
Phlox Zoryana
The variety is distinguished by the original coloring of the petals: each of them has two colors. Half of the petal is colored pink. On the second part of the petal, it smoothly turns into white. The flowers are large, 4 cm in diameter, collected in a conical inflorescence, rather loose. It can sometimes be flat. The bush does not grow higher than 60 cm. It blooms from mid-July to late August.
Color contrast is best seen on a sunny day.
Phlox Pink Pyramid
A very beautiful variety, the color resembles a Viking phlox, however, the Pyramid has slightly wavy petals. Inflorescences are bright pink, with a carmine core, large, oval-conical. A compact bush, only 60 cm tall, with straight stems. Flowering begins in July and lasts until September.
The variety has good winter hardiness, but reluctantly reproduces by division.
Phlox Raspberry soufflé
A fairly tall bush up to 110 cm in height has strong straight stems and grows quickly. In the middle of summer, bright crimson flowers bloom on it. The color is clean, without admixture of shades. The flowers are medium in size, not more than 3.2 cm in diameter, but collected in dense oval inflorescences.
The deep crimson color remains throughout the entire flowering and does not fade in the sun.
Phlox Hello
One of the longest flowering species. Phlox blooms in early summer and blooms until autumn. Large flowers are collected in a slightly elongated inflorescence, also large. Their color is hard not to notice even from afar. The flowers are deep pink, turning into crimson, color, with a darker ring in the middle. They remain so regardless of the place of cultivation, because they do not fade in the sun. They also give off a pleasant sweet scent. The bush grows quite compact, up to 70 cm, but falls apart slightly under the weight of the buds.
Phlox Anastasia
A beautiful tall bush (1 m) looks gorgeous in the garden due to the dark green foliage densely covering the shoots. Against its background, the delicate color of the inflorescences especially catches the eye, which can be seen in the photo of Anastasia phlox. The large flowers are pale pink, but in the middle there is a large white spot repeating the contour of the petal. Lush inflorescences resemble a dome. Phlox blooms in July and blooms profusely for more than two months.
The variety is resistant to fungal diseases.
Phlox Theatrical
There is no strong, fast-growing shrub taller than 90 cm. In the middle of summer, oval inflorescences bloom on it. The flowers, as for the plant itself, are quite large, up to 4.2 cm in diameter. The petals are of a rich dark crimson color, but lighter in the center. In addition, there is a small, darker ring in the core. The reverse side of the petal is much lighter, closer to pink color.
At first, the variety was called Actress, but the originator immediately changed the name in favor of the current one.
Phlox Kievsky
The variety can still be found under the name Kiev early. It really blooms earlier than most other varieties, in June. But it blooms for more than two months with pink rounded inflorescences. In the sun, the brightness of the color fades slightly. "Convenient" size bush - maximum 60 cm. Slightly drooping stems with plenty of foliage.
The variety winters well, but the resistance to fungal diseases is average.
Phlox Apple Blossom
Compact variety with a bush no higher than 60 cm and very large delicate flowers. The diameter of each can reach 4.8 cm, all collected together in a flat inflorescence-umbrella. Blooms in late July. In the photo of phlox Apple Blossom, you can see that its flowers are light pink, indeed, like those of an apple tree. There is a large white spot in the center. Remarkably, they do not fade in the sun.
