Do you know how to grow full-fledged potatoes from sprouts?

Hi everyone! I want to plant my summer cottage with a new variety of potatoes. Unfortunately, it is quite expensive - it is very expensive to buy planting material for the entire site. I decided to use sprouts to save money. Therefore, I want to find out with all the details how to grow potato seedlings from sprouts.

Knowing how to grow potato seedlings from sprouts can really save a lot of money, and at the same time get the opportunity to dig up the first tubers in mid-July. Of course, with such cultivation, there are certain subtleties that you definitely need to know about.

Tuber with sprouts

Getting sprouts for seedlings

Approximately 2-3 weeks before planting potatoes (in different regions this date differs by more than a month), the seed tubers selected in the fall or purchased later must be created suitable conditions. Tubers are laid out on a cloth or just in boxes with soil. You can stack them tightly, one to the other, to save space. The temperature should be high enough - not lower than + 10 ... + 15 degrees Celsius. In addition, the tubers need to be well lit - without this, the eyes will not hatch. The tubers should be covered with soil to prevent drying out and death. The composition of the soil does not matter - it acts as a protection, not a nutrient medium.

After 15-20 days, sprouts will rise above the ground - strong and healthy. They should be carefully broken off at the base and as soon as possible (the main thing here is not to dry out) to start planting.

The sprouts vary greatly depending on the variety.

The tubers can be used as food - they are not suitable for replanting.

Planting sprouts

The sprouts plant in the same way as ordinary potato tubers - a hole is dug one bayonet deep, after which the sprout sits in it. Of course, you need to do this carefully so that fragile shoots are not damaged. It is advisable to plant two or three sprouts in one hole, but if there is no need to save the usable area of the plot, you can plant one at a time - even if not every hole will bring a crop, but there will be more potatoes in total.

Water the area immediately after planting. Do not forget - the sprouts will not have the same supply of nutrients as when planting tubers. Therefore, the slightest drought can ruin the harvest. It is also advisable to feed the site with fertilizers several times over the summer - the sprouts need to be provided with the most suitable conditions for growth.
