Potato Luck is the best early high-yielding variety

Please tell us about the potato Luck. Friends advised it as an early and high-yielding variety. I would like to know if these qualities persist in conditions of too warm spring and summer. We often have dry weather, and, unfortunately, watering is often impossible - we do not live in the country, we come only for the weekend.

cutaway potatoes Most gardeners, choosing and preparing seed for spring planting, prefer the potatoes Luck. This variety has been known for a long time, since the 90s of the last century, and was bred specifically for growing in any weather conditions for early harvest. The breeders coped with their task perfectly, and to this day, Luck is in the lead among other varieties of the popular root crop. Learn how to cook potato gratin.

Description of the varietygood luck roots

Potato Luck is an early variety of domestic selection. It grows in rather large bushes, reaching 40 cm in height, with a spreading and dense crown. It blooms very profusely, but not for long.

The yield of the variety is good and the taste is also excellent. The maximum number of tubers can be harvested with a sufficient amount of heat and moisture during the growing season, however, Luck perfectly adapts to another climate, including drought, losing very little in yield, but retaining quality characteristics.

From one bush, you can collect up to one and a half dozen tubers weighing about 150 g each (almost 2 kg of potatoes).

The roots themselves have a slightly oval shape and a light brown thin skin, decorated with a small number of eyes. The flesh is usually white, but may turn yellow during cooking.

The yellowness of the pulp most often depends on what the bushes were fertilized with, in particular, on potash and chloride dressings.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Luckpotato luck

Of the positive aspects of the variety, it is worth noting the following sides:

  1. Like all early varieties. Luck has good resistance to low temperatures. Tuber germination occurs already at 10 degrees Celsius, and you can start planting at the end of April.
  2. The first young potatoes are ready 45 days after planting.
  3. Luck rarely suffers from viral diseases, and is also resistant to scab, wrinkled mosaics, rhizoctonia and potato cancer.
  4. Stores well.
  5. Sufficiently dense pulp keeps its shape and does not boil soft, with a pleasant taste.

Of the shortcomings of the variety, it is desirable to pay attention to the weak resistance of Luck to late blight, Alternaria and golden nematode. These diseases impair both the quality of the root crops themselves and reduce the yield.

If you hurry with landing and put the tubers in cold soil, this will push back harvest time by two weeks.

Luck potatoes do not like tightness and with dense planting, the tubers become smaller. But if you take into account all the nuances, process the bushes in time, then it is quite possible to avoid unpleasant moments.
