They successfully survived the winter, and now I would like to plant flowers in the garden. I just have a free spot in the flowerbed, where I plant my home begonias every year.

Large, juicy and delicate leaves and charming large inflorescences of the most varied colors ... Perhaps there are no growers who would not like begonia. The bright appearance and unpretentiousness of character allows them to be grown not only on windowsills. Beautiful bushes feel great in the garden. True, in the latter case, you will have to tinker a little. Juicy tubers absolutely do not tolerate wintering in the open field. For this reason, they need to be dug up in the fall. But already at the end of next spring, they will delight with lush flowering, if you know when to plant tuberous begonia. Timely planting will allow you to grow a strong compact bush. This is also important with the further planting of the flower in the ground - then it will not suffer from recurrent frosts.

So, the timing of planting begonias can be roughly divided into two stages:

• planting tubers in pots for germination;
• planting young bushes on a flower bed.

When to start sprouting tubers?

Begonia begins to wake up from hibernation around February. At this time, the buds gradually swell on the tubers. This means it's time to get ready to plant them in pots.

Most varieties of begonias can be planted for germination in early March.

However, if buds are in no hurry to appear on tubers with the arrival of spring, you should not be upset. Perhaps this is exactly the species that rests until April. In this case, you just need to delay the landing a little.

When to plant tuberous begonia outdoors?

As already said, everything begonias - extremely thermophilic plants. If you plan to grow them as garden culture, you should pay attention to the local climate. Tubers cannot be planted right away on the flower bed - first they should be germinated in the house. Then the bushes need to be gradually accustomed to the outdoor temperature. To do this, pots with young begonias from the beginning of May begin to be taken out on the veranda for a day. If there is a glazed balcony, you can leave them there at night.

It is better to plant begonias in the soil towards the end of May, when the nights are already warm too.

Also, plants can be simply put on the terrace or in the garden along with a flowerpot, or you can simply dig it in the garden bed. This option will reduce the number of transplants to a minimum and injure the roots less.
