We carry out cuttings of arrowroot to get a new copy

cutting arrowroot Cutting arrowroot is not only a way to get new plants, but also a chance to rejuvenate an old bush. As they grow older, the lower foliage on the shoots dries and dies off, and the stems lengthen. As a result, we have a long shoot with foliage only at the top. Of course, arrowroot can form new branches, right from the ground. However, such a bush will no longer look neat and well-groomed. To return the plant to its lush forms, we suggest subjecting it to cuttings. Thus, we will receive planting material for new specimens. And the old arrowroot will get a wide fluffy hat.

Cutting arrowroot: how to take cuttings correctly

When you start pruning arrowroot and harvesting cuttings, follow a few rules:

  1. For old plants, use bare stems for propagation by cuttings.
  2. If they have ramifications, if necessary, get a lot of planting material - carefully separate them.
  3. The minimum cutting length should be 12 cm.
  4. Each stalk should have a couple of leaves and 2-3 internodes.
  5. Make a bottom cut 1 cm below the knot.
  6. Remove lower leaves from cuttings if they are too low.

Look carefully at the top of the shoot - it may already have young air roots. In this case, adjust the pruning so that these roots remain at the bottom of the cutting.

How to root arrowroot cuttings

Cuttings take root pretty quickly and in a week they will be ready for planting in a pot. To awaken the roots, place the arrowroot in a glass of water and place it on a warm windowsill... South windows will not work - the plant does not need so much light now. It is much more important that the window does not open and that there are no drafts - then the cuttings will die. Make sure that the liquid covers the bottom of the shanks, otherwise they will dry out. As the water evaporates, add it to the container, and periodically spray the leaves on the cuttings.

You need to spray on both sides of the sheet plate.

Arrowroot cuttings can be rooted immediately in the ground, however, it has been observed from practice that roots will appear faster in water. Already after 10 days, white roots will appear in the lower part of the shoots and the cuttings will be ready for planting in a flowerpot. Use a loose and light soil mixture so that moisture passes through well. For the first time, cover the arrowroot with a jar or put a bag on the pot. When young leaves appear, the shelter can be removed.
