Is the Petrusha Ogorodnik tomato suitable for growing in the open field if we live in Siberia? We also have a greenhouse, but next year we want to plant more bell peppers there, and tomatoes in the beds. I love this variety, it is very tasty, I always buy fruits on the market, but I haven’t tried to plant them yet. Will the tomatoes have time to ripen or is it better to plant them in the greenhouse?

For its only seven years of existence, the tomato Petrusha Ogorodnik has already managed to acquire fans. And although in taste and yield it cannot compete with modern hybrids and is inferior to them, but in general the variety is quite good. And its main advantage is the ability to grow in any climate, from the south to Siberia. Moreover, the purpose of the breeders' creation was to obtain such tomatoes that would yield a harvest in the open field, while at the same time as long as possible.

Tomato Petrusha Gardener - variety description

The first tomatoes ripen 3 months after sowing, so the variety is mid-season. Belongs to the determinant species. The bushes are quite strong and compact, with an average height of about 60 cm. They do not need pinching, but if you wish, you can form plants up to the first brush. This will speed up the ripening of the fruit, which is important for a cold climate.

The variety has good immunity, but in conditions of high humidity it still cannot resist late blight. Therefore, preventive treatments are mandatory for him. But seedling Petrushi will delight. Small, stocky, it does not outgrow and does not stretch if it is not possible to plant it on time. The main thing is to keep the tomatoes cool.

As already mentioned, the Petrusha Ogorodnik tomatoes are planted mainly in the open field. But it is quite possible to grow them in greenhouses too. However, it must be borne in mind that this is not entirely advisable. Although the greenhouse Petrusha grows taller, up to 1 m, it will not give such a yield as special tall species. In addition, tomatoes need artificial pollination.

Fruit appearance and taste

The main purpose of the variety is salad, but most of the fruits can be preserved. The largest tomatoes are usually from the first ovary, 180-200 g, with each next brush they become smaller. From one bush, you can take up to 5 kg of an unusual-shaped tomato. They look like a cylinder with uneven edges, while at the tip they have a sharp nose. The skin is dense, colored raspberry pink. The pulp is dense, moderately juicy and sweet.

Despite their young age, gardeners have already managed to appreciate the tomatoes Petrusha Ogorodnik and see its such advantages:

• fruiting until October (weather permitting);
• drought tolerance;
• transportability due to the dense skin;

• good taste of tomatoes and an original look.

Among the disadvantages, it is worth noting that tomatoes can crack with excess moisture. In addition, apical rot is sometimes observed in fruits.
