There are no problems with the cultivation of remontant irises in the southern regions of the country, which cannot be said about the middle climatic zone. There is an opinion that it makes no sense to plant such varieties in the latter, since they do not have time to bloom a second time. Early autumn does not at all contribute to re-flowering and turns remontant irises into ordinary irises that bloom once, since the buds simply do not have time to fully form and open before frost.
However, there are some tricks that will help you see the second bloom of remontant irises even in the middle lane. These include the following points:
- It is better to plant such irises in raised beds - there it will be warmer for the plants.
- If possible, it is better to arrange flowers along the greenhouse wall. She will hide the irises from the wind and give them a little of her warmth.
Care features
Repaired iris varieties require more careful maintenance. In particular, it should:
- timely remove faded buds during the first wave of flowering so that the plant does not waste energy on tying seed pods;
- completely cut off the peduncles after the end of the first flowering;
- to activate the setting of buds of the second wave of flowering, feed irises with potassium preparations, for example, potassium sulfate;
- cut off wilted leaves in late autumn.
To prevent the disease, it is necessary to treat irises with fungicides (Fitosporin). The first treatment is carried out at the end of June, and then two more with a break of 10 days. The last time the irises are processed before hibernation.
