Planting and growing of Ruyana strawberries from seeds
Everyone loves strawberries - a fragrant and sweet berry. The strawberry "Ruyana", the description of the variety and the photo of which is in the article, is remarkable in that it bears fruit all summer long and does not give a mustache. It is useful to know about its cultivation from seeds and the intricacies of care, the variety is very tasty and deserves the attention of gardeners.
Description of the variety
"Ruyana" refers to small-fruited varieties that yield all summer long until the frost. The berry is red, tasty and fragrant, somewhat reminiscent of wild strawberries. The maximum berry weight is 7 g, it has dense flesh. The crop is well stored, suitable for transportation.
The description of “Ruyana” strawberry contains an important advantage - its bushes do not have a mustache, which greatly facilitates care. In the open field, the plant tolerates winter frosts well. Strawberries have strong stalks that do not sink to the ground under the weight of the berries. The harvest does not suffer during the rains.
Strawberry remontant mustache "Ruyana" is a Czech variety that cannot be grown from independently harvested seeds. The plant propagates only by dividing the bush or by seeds purchased from the store.
Growing from seeds
Growing strawberries "Ruyana" from seeds, take into account some peculiarities. This is a small-seeded crop that must be sown superficially. If there is even a 2 mm soil layer on top of the seeds, they will not sprout.
It is too early to sow strawberries at home in February or March. It will be difficult to give the seedlings the necessary amount of heat and light. The best time for sowing is late March or early April. In June, grown seedlings can be planted in open ground.
Remontant strawberry "Ruyana" - growing from seeds, procedure:
- for germination, a plastic container with drainage holes is used, light soil is poured into it, which passes water and air well;
- furrows are made with a plate, about 2 mm deep, at a distance of 2.5-3 cm from each other;
- seeds are scattered in rows;
- sprayed with water from a spray bottle, moistening the soil to a depth of about 1 cm;
- cover the landing container with a transparent bag or glass;
- put in a warm place, with an air temperature of +25 ° C.
Fresh seeds should emerge on day 6-7. If the seeds are stuck in a store or warehouse, no amount of stratification and soaking will help them. The container is opened daily for 10 minutes to prevent excess condensation from accumulating.
Spray as needed, from a distance of 25 cm, carefully, taking care not to wash off the hatching senses.
When seedlings appear, the air temperature must be lowered to 17-18 ° C so that the seedlings do not stretch out. It is desirable to organize supplementary lighting of seedlings or put on a well-lit windowsill.
Seedling picking and transshipment into open ground
When the seedlings have 2 true leaves, they are dived into separate plastic cups or peat pots. The cups are filled with purchased universal soil with peat, black earth and sand. The transplant is done with tweezers, trying to grab as much soil as possible on the roots.Pickled seedlings are watered with water with "Kornevin" for better survival.
After about a week, the seedlings can be fed with watering by adding 30 or 40 grams of nitroammofoska per 10 liters of water. During the cultivation of seedlings, 2 or 3 such dressings are made.
For planting on a garden bed in central Russia, a well-lit place is chosen, and in the southern regions, a light partial shade.
Seedling bushes are planted at a distance of 25 cm from each other and 60 cm between rows. Maybe there is a different planting scheme, strawberries do not give a mustache, and therefore do not grow over the site. Rotted manure is brought into the garden for plowing. When planted in holes, grown strawberries "Ruyana" from seeds do not deepen much.
You can cover the ground between young strawberry bushes with agrofibre and mulch with straw to protect it from weeds and drying out.
Strawberry care
When caring for a berry, you need to know some of its characteristics in order to get a good harvest. Strawberry remontant "Ruyana" continuously bears fruit all summer until autumn frosts. To maintain the quality and quantity of the crop, the beds need to be fertilized annually.
Strawberries also require constant watering, repairing varieties are demanding on moisture throughout the growing season. Ruyana has a superficial root system, when the soil dries up, the berries grow smaller, the amount of harvest decreases. But an excess of moisture is also unacceptable, the roots can dry out, and the plant will die. The best irrigation option is to install systems drip irrigation.
Spring work and pest control
In the spring the remontant strawberry "Ruyana" needs special attention. In order for it to grow more actively, the beds must be put in order. Remove withered and diseased foliage, loosen the aisles. You need to loosen no more than 5 cm in depth, because the plant has superficial roots. Drizzle with lukewarm water heated in the sun during the day. 1 g of copper sulfate is added to 10 liters of water. A week later, water it again, putting 1 g of potassium permanganate on 10 liters of water.
When the first ovaries begin to appear, you can water the bushes with a solution of boric acid - in a proportion of 10 g per 20 liters of water. Strawberries will receive nutrition with the necessary trace elements along with watering.
In the spring and summer, the strawberries "Ruyana", the description of the variety and the photo of which are very attractive, must be fed with complex fertilizers, an aqueous solution of mullein or bird droppings. The ratio of mullein to liquid should be 1 to 10, and bird droppings should be 1 liter per 20 liters of water. Strawberries will receive nitrogen from organic matter in the spring, and when they begin to bloom, they will need potassium-phosphorus fertilizing. They can be replaced with wood ash (2 tablespoons of ash for 1 bucket of water).
For remontant strawberries, it is advisable to do complex feeding 2 times a month all summer.
Of the pests, strawberries are most often attacked by strawberry mites and weevils. To fight insects in early spring, strawberry beds can be sprayed with Karbofos solution, adding 75 g of the drug to 10 liters of water. You can use folk remedies, for example, dilute 200 g in 10 liters of water mustard.
During wet weather, strawberries are affected by gray rot, and their leaves begin to turn yellow. Before flowering, the beds can be sprinkled with wood ash or treated with "Hom".
After harvesting in autumn, all flower stalks are cut off. In two-year-old strawberry bushes that are damaged by diseases and pests, you can cut off all the leaves, and treat the beds with copper sulfate or another fungicide. Before treatment for diseases, strawberries are fed with fertilizers with potassium.
It is advisable to cover the bushes planted in autumn for the winter in mid-November. For shelter, soil mulching is used, then coniferous branches are laid on strawberry beds, and covered with spunbond.
