Making flower pots from egg trays

decorating a flower pot with egg trays You can make a flower pot from paper egg trays. Decorate it using the papier-mâché sculpting technique. The base for a flower pot can be a food tray, plastic bucket, or metal utensils.

To prepare papier-mâché, several egg trays must be torn into pieces. Their number depends on the volume of the base of the pot. For a five-liter container, you will need three to four trays, and for a ten-liter pot, seven to eight pieces.

To collect scraps of paper, use the container that will be the basis of the future flowerpot. Fill the container with the scraps to the top. If you plan to decorate a flower pot, prepare more of these pieces by filling the "heaped" container.

Solution preparation

To prepare the modeling mixture:

  1. Fill a container of scraps of paper with warm water. Fill the container so that the water barely covers the scraps of the paper egg tray. Leave the container with such a mixture for a day so that the paper becomes sour. If you do flower pot in winter, it takes more time to dissolve the paper.
  2. Add 150 ml of PVA, wallpaper glue and alabaster to the resulting solution. Then stir the mixture well and let sit for two to three hours.
  3. If lumps of paper form, break them up with a rolling pin and then stir again.

The consistency of the solution should be similar to plasticine or clay, so that crafts can be sculpted from it. The solution must be transferred to another container.

Making a pot

The base for the pot must be covered with PVA glue. Cover the container gradually to prevent the glue from drying out during use. On top of the glue, apply a layer of paper solution 1 cm thick. Make the border of the future flowerpot. To do this, make a layer of "paper plasticine" a little thicker along the edge of the container.

After the papier-mâché is dry, paint the pot with acrylic or oil paint. To decorate a flower pot, you can make flowers or a bunch of grapes from the remains of papier-mâché, which is covered with paint of a different color.

Also, the decoration can be made in the form of grass. To do this, a layer of solution 0.5 cm thick is applied along the bottom of the pot along the entire perimeter, then shallow cuts are made with a toothpick. After drying, the "grass" is covered with green paint.

To style a flowerpot like a tree stump, make stripes along the entire height of the pot and paint them with gold paint. Paint the main part of the pot brown.
