We grow peas as green manure and fertilizer

peas as siderat Peas are an annual leguminous plant whose fruiting period ends in mid-summer. Many gardeners are waiting for the beginning of autumn to mow dried shrub stalks and cover the soil with them under perennial plants. Such dead wood is an excellent mulch that protects the soil from freezing in winter. Thanks to pea mulch, perennial plants, especially flowers, can more easily tolerate autumn frosts.

Peas as green manure are used in industrial fields for the reason that this legume is considered the best predecessor for all cultivated plants.

On the garden bed where peas grew last year, nightshade and grain crops take root especially well, and given the fact that this legume plant very quickly enters a dormant period, in industrial fields, pea stalks are mown still green. Rotting, long stems of peas and its developed root system saturates the soil with nutrients necessary for the growth of other crops.

Making fertilizer from peas

To get the maximum amount from the pea stalk nitrogen and potassium, it must be finely chopped and soaked in hot water. The crushed stalk and pods of peas are infused in a barrel in the sun for 10-14 days.

It is necessary to monitor the water level in the container. Add water to the barrel regularly so that the level constantly covers the tops of the peas. In five days, the process of fermentation of the green mass of peas will begin. Over time, a pungent smell will begin to stand out, so the container with crushed pea stalks must be tightly closed.

Other herbaceous plants can be used to prepare the herbal infusion, but the pea bush will give the most nutrients. Perennial plants are watered with this solution during the growing season and fruiting.

Fermented pea stalk is a good fertilizer for cultivated plants during the flowering period. To prepare such an organic fertilizer, the stems, pods and leaves of peas are cut into long strips and placed in a plastic bag, from which air is completely removed. Previously, 2 cm of water is poured into the bag. Then it is placed on the roof of the house, where the sun's rays are attracted. Under the influence of sunlight, the water in the bag evaporates, and the tops of the peas begin to turn black. When the contents of the bag have shrunk about three times, the fertilizer can be scattered under the flowering plants.
