Preparing street brugmansia for winter
Many growers grow brugmansia in a pot and take it out into the garden for the summer, and with the onset of autumn, the flower is simply returned back to the room. But what to do if the plant is planted in open ground? How, in this case, to determine it for the winter? It is quite clear that you cannot leave a tender tree on the street, because it will not survive the winter frosts. Therefore, the correct and timely "sending" of the plant to the room will not only save the flower, but also help it survive the cold season.
When to transfer a flower to the house?
It is very difficult to say exactly the date when brugmansia should be brought into the house, because in different climatic zones the weather is significantly different: if autumn comes early in the northern regions, then in the south and in October there may still be warm weather.
It is necessary to focus on the night air temperature - as soon as it reaches 10 degrees Celsius, you can move the plant into the house.
How to relocate the bush?
In the open field, brugmansia feels better than in a pot - there the soil space is not limited by the size of the dishes and the flower has more opportunities for development. But in order for the bush to winter in the house, it still has to be dug up and transplanted into a tub.
For planting adult brugmansia bushes, you can use ordinary plastic buckets with a volume of 10, 15 or 25 liters, depending on the size of the plant.
After the bush is dug up, you should:
- chop off the root system with a shovel, "adjusting" it to the size of the bucket (or cut with pruning shears, if the brugmansia is small);
- pour a little earth on the bottom of the bucket and install a bush in it;
- in order to give a compact size to a tall and spreading plant, it must be cut, while at least one asymmetrical leaf (with an irregular leaf plate) should be left on one branch;
- shedding soil well;
- sprinkle the roots with earth.
Do not pour the earth to the top, otherwise the water will overflow during irrigation. Better to leave a few inches of headroom.
Where to store brugmansia in winter?
A tub with a flower is best placed in a cool room (insulated balcony or veranda) with moderate lighting.
Before you bring the bucket into the house, you need to give the bush the opportunity to acclimate, and the places of the cuts should be tightened. For this, the flower is left outside for a couple of days.
Comfort temperature for brugmansia in winter it is 12-15 degrees Celsius. It should be watered sparingly and sparingly at this time.
