Levkoy undersized If in the spring the smell of blooming apricots spreads far away in the district, then in the summer with the onset of evening, it begins to smell of levka. Especially popular among summer residents is the undersized levkoy. Its compact size allows you to find a place for a fragrant garden in any flower bed.

Description of the plant

matthiola

If you've ever seen bloom matthiola, which means that the acquaintance with Levkoy took place, because it is one and the same flower. Despite the rather small inflorescences, it is simply irreplaceable for drawing up summer-autumn flower beds. It's all about the sweet aroma of expensive perfume, which comes from the Levkoy bushes. It is noteworthy that it manifests itself in full force at night.

However, the plant itself looks quite decorative. In most species, the stems are covered with a short downy, creating a silvery hue. The leaves can also be pubescent, and most of them are located in the lower part of the bush, forming a dense rosette. The leaf plate is elongated, with smooth or serrated edges.

Levkoy blooms from the beginning of summer to the very frost, forming inflorescences in the form of a brush or an ear. The flowers are small, simple or double. Most varieties have 3 cm in diameter, and the largest ones reach only 7-8 cm. Their color can be very different. Most varieties are presented in pink and purple tones with various shades. There are also white, yellow and red levkoy. All plant species have a fragrant smell of flowers.

Terry varieties are the most effective, they also have larger inflorescences, and, as a rule, lighter petals. And although terry levka blooms longer (each flower lasts up to 3 weeks), it does not give seeds. For reproduction, species with simple flowers are used. Already on day 6, they fall off, but they tie a pod with seeds.
