Room decoration - Dutch giant spathiphyllum Sensation

spathiphyllum sensation in the interior One of the most beautiful, and certainly the largest varieties of spathiphyllum is the Sensation variety. It was bred in Holland specifically for indoor cultivation where there are problems with bright lighting.

What is the uniqueness of the variety?

Externally, Spathiphyllum Sensation is a tall bush. Unlike its relatives, which are compact in size, the Sensation looks like just a giant, because the total height of the plant sometimes reaches 1.5 m. Accordingly, the leaves at spathiphyllum very large - the length of the leaf plate is on average about 50 cm, but there are specimens with leaves of 80 cm in length, while their width is from 30 to 40 cm.The leaf itself is painted in a deep green color and has well-traced ribs.

Spathiphyllum is especially beautiful during flowering, when a long peduncle rises above the bush, at the end of which a wide white veil proudly unfolds. The flower is not inferior in size to the leaves.

Growing features

Despite its large size, Spathiphyllum Sensation does not make any special care requirements. For him, the same rules and recommendations apply that apply to other types of flowers.

The only nuance of growing Sensation is due to its varietal trait and concerns lighting: the plant tolerates a lack of lighting well and feels comfortable in partial shade.

As for leaving, it will be enough to adhere to these tips:

  1. Prepare a nutritious soil for spathiphyllum with good water and air permeability. You can use a ready-made substrate for aroids, or you can make a mixture yourself by mixing garden soil, peat, humus and sand in a 4: 2: 2: 1 ratio.
  2. Maintain the temperature in the room at least 18, but not more than 25 degrees Celsius.
  3. For obvious reasons, window sills are not very suitable for Sensation, unless the plant is young. Small bushes can be kept on the eastern windows, and an adult spathiphyllum will feel quite comfortable on the floor under the window. However, direct sunlight should be avoided. This leaves ugly stains.
  4. The soil in the pot must be kept moist, not allowing it to dry out completely. In summer, the plant should be watered every 3 days, in winter, once a week is enough, or even less often.
  5. Twice a month, chic leaves should be washed in the shower or wiped with a damp sponge, and the bush itself should be sprayed regularly. This will keep the humidity level necessary for it.
  6. In winter, the Sensation can grow without additional fertilizing, but with the arrival of spring, the plant needs nutrients, especially during flowering. To do this, add complex mineral preparations twice a month during watering.

In summer, it is advisable to take spathiphyllum outside and put in a shady place. In the open air, the plant grows more actively.

Transplant Sensations

While the spathiphyllum is young, it must be transplanted every year, changing the soil to fresh. It is better to do this in the spring, before the growth processes begin.

After the bush reaches four years of age, it is enough to change the soil every three years. For large plants, only the topsoil can be renewed.
