Meatlider vegetable garden: where to start?

We have the same plots with our neighbors, however, our harvest is often much less. The neighbor says that all the merit lies in the narrow beds that he uses. Tell me where to start in order to set up a garden in the Meatlider?

The technology of growing garden crops according to the Meatlider method is a special system for arranging vegetable beds. According to this method, plants are grown in narrow beds, located on a perfectly flat surface of the plot. Loosening of the soil, watering and top dressing are carried out strictly in the groove between the beds, without affecting the aisle.

Benefits of farming according to Meathlider

beds with plants

Planting plants on narrow beds has a number of advantages, among which it is worth noting:

  • the ability to plant beds at least 2 times during the season;
  • it is convenient to care for plants;
  • vegetables ripen almost at the same time;
  • crops give a higher yield even on a small plot area.

Due to the fact that fertilizers are applied at the root, in the inter-row groove, they are quickly absorbed by plants, without "spreading" over the entire plot.

The Meatlider method involves the use of two options for arranging the beds:

  • narrow beds directly on the open ground:
  • boxes made of wood without a bottom (or with it) for growing plants.

Layout of narrow beds

marking of beds

Where do you need to start to do Meatlider vegetable garden? First of all, you should dig up the area and carefully select all the roots from the weeds. Then the soil must be leveled. An ordinary rake will not help here, it is better to use a special level and a long board or bar, since the surface should be perfectly flat.

The presence of even a slight slope will nullify all efforts: water during irrigation will flow down an inclined side and wash away fertilizers. As a result, some of the plants will lack moisture and nutrition, while the other part will suffer from their excess.

After the surface of the site has become flat, they begin to break down the beds. It also has its own peculiarities - the width between the beds should be 45 cm, and between the rows - at least 90 cm.

The beds themselves should be broken up at the same level with the aisles, however, it is necessary to make earthen sides up to 10 cm high on all sides.

In narrow beds, crops are planted in two rows, and they begin to fight for a place “under the sun”, which contributes to an increase in yield. For fertilization, special formulations are used, which are applied between these rows. Watering is carried out in the same way, and daily.

The beds are made in the direction from north to south.

Growing in boxes according to the Meatlider method

plants in boxes

The second version of narrow beds is often used in areas where there is no way to level the site. For this, special boxes are constructed from wooden boards with parameters:

  • in width - 45 cm;
  • in height - 20 cm.

The boxes are treated with an antiseptic inside and installed on the site. The nutrient substrate is poured into the boxes in one of the following ways:

  1. Fill the box completely with the nutrient mixture.
  2. Use ordinary soil as the bottom layer, and the substrate is laid on top with the second layer.

      The cultivation of garden crops is good for Mitlider because it can be used on any kind of soil. The main components of the method are not the type of soil, but the peculiarity of the location of the beds.In addition, the plants are fed with special fertilizers. I noticed that if the earth is not dug up or the earth is under the lawn grass, then the larvae of the May beetle live there, which eat the roots of Victoria, raspberries and other plants. You have not encountered such a phenomenon.
