The Orlov trotting horse breed owes its name and origin to Count Orlov, who, after completing his professional career, devoted all his time to breeding pedigree horses. He strove to breed a breed that would meet the highest requirements - it would be graceful, strong, hardy and capable of training.

For this purpose, Count Orlov acquired an Arabian horse from the Turkish Sultan, calling it Smetanka. It was the son of Smetanka, crossed with a mare dun suit from Holland, who became the ancestor of the Oryol breed.Orlov horse
