Why does mold appear?

The disease that appears on the lawn grass is not difficult to notice. The surface layer of the emerald cover is covered with brown, whitish, dull spots. This is mold that eats away at the lawn. Initially, a small area of the lawn is affected, and then the focus of infection spreads throughout the territory.

The causative agent of the disease is a mold fungus - Fusarium. It reproduces in conditions where: temperature regime is from 0 to 6 degrees Celsius, soil with no nitrogen fertilizers, high soil moisture and poor-quality drainage.

The main factor in the appearance of mold

  • Mold appears with high soil moisture. If the formation of puddles is revealed on the lawn, after showers, irrigation, melting snow, you must immediately take action and drain the area.
  • If the lawn is not cut correctly. It is impossible to leave uncut grass to winter, such actions will lead to its rotting and the development of molds.
  • Avoid lack of nutrients, especially nitrogen.
  • Rubbish, loose leaves are the first conductor for the development of mold.
  • When a neighbor's lawn is infected, the wind can transfer mold spores to nearby, healthy lawns. Treat the affected areas of the lawn carefully, as mold can remain on the sole, and then spread throughout the territory.
  • In winter, it is difficult for the lawn grass to "breathe". Since dense snow does not allow air to pass through, mold often appears with the arrival of spring.
