Why quails do not rush and how to fix the situation

quail in a cage Quails are unpretentious birds. They lay very healthy eggs, therefore they are common all over the world. Quails are grown commercially in Japan, China and other Asian countries. In Russia, these birds are raised mainly in households. Quails are not very popular in our country, because novice poultry farmers, unknowingly, do not provide adequate living conditions.

Due to errors in keeping quails, the birds stop rushing. The fall in egg production can be due to several reasons:

  • the age of the bird;
  • incorrect temperature conditions of the content;
  • unbalanced food supply;
  • bright or, conversely, too dim lighting.

Also, the reason for the decrease in egg production can be bird injuries: fractures and dislocations.

Bird age

Quail begins to lay eggs at five weeks or two months of age, depending on the breed. Scientists have found that the highest egg production in quails occurs a week after entering the egg-laying period. After three months, the egg production of females falls, and after five months the bird stops laying.

Quails do not live long, on average one year. When the quail is eight months old, replace the bird population with a younger generation, so you will achieve the highest productivity and get the maximum number of eggs. It is better to take eggs for incubation from two-month-old quails. The strongest chicks hatch from such eggs.

Temperature regime

In a poultry house where quails are kept, you must maintain a constant temperature of at least +22ABOUTC. With temperature fluctuations of 3ABOUTThey stop rushing with quail for exactly two weeks, and if the temperature drops below the permissible value by 10ABOUTC, quails will lose the ability to lay eggs.

Insulate the house well so that the quails are carried regularly.

Unbalanced food supply

For feeding quails, special compound feed is produced. They include over 150 different components. It will not be possible to prepare suitable bird feed on your own, so quails should be gradually transferred to compound feed in order to increase egg production.

Incorrect lighting

Due to too bright lighting, the quail cannot sleep normally, loses a lot of strength and energy and stops laying eggs. Too dim lighting leads to the fact that the bird becomes lethargic and freezes. Hypothermia leads to a significant decrease in egg production.

Install fluorescent lights in the house and turn them off at 9pm to maximize egg production.
