Why do hovea leaves turn yellow and how to help the plant
Hovea is a palm tree with beautiful leaves that can transform a home or office space. The plant is completely unpretentious, but sometimes the leaves of hovea turn yellow, and the tips dry and darken. If the cause of the appearance of such defects is eliminated in time, then the plant will not suffer.
Why do hovea leaves turn yellow
With an excess of boron, hovea may lose its attractiveness. To lower its performance, it is not necessary to use purchased funds. It is enough to use regular sugar.
These parameters can be achieved in several ways:
- regularly spray the plant and the area around it, at least once every 2 days;
- install several containers of water near the flowerpot;
- buy a humidifier or a decorative fountain.
As soon as the humidity in the room returns to normal, palm turns green again. Also, the reason for the yellowish tint of the leaves may be a lack of nutrients in the soil or an excess of calcium, which occurs when the plant is watered with hard water. - Chlorosis... In this case, drying of the leaf plates provokes a lack of phosphorus compounds in the soil or an excess of fluorine. Therefore, you need to choose fertilizers in the store that are suitable for palm trees and do not contain fluoride components. Top dressing in a pot with a palm tree is applied from spring to autumn once every 2 weeks. It is good to alternate root fertilization and spraying. In winter, as well as immediately after transplanting, fertilizer should not be applied.
- Excess copper. It provokes the appearance of dark spots that resemble an ellipse in shape. To prevent this from happening, you should not use products containing copper to treat palm trees.
Oddly enough it sounds, but overflow can become another reason for the leaves to dry. In winter, this must be monitored especially carefully. Hovea is watered only when the soil in the pot dries out to a depth of 2 cm. And so that the roots of the palm tree do not rot, it is necessary to place a drainage layer of expanded clay, fine gravel or ceramic shards at the bottom of the pot when planting.
Blanching and dark spots
The main advantage of hovea is its beautiful foliage of a rich, juicy green color. If its shade is far from this, the plant has become pale, then the reason for this may be a draft. It creates sharp fluctuations in temperature and humidity, and the plant does not like this.Draft leads to disruptions in the process of photosynthesis, which immediately affects the color of the leaf plates. In this case, there is only one way out - to rearrange pot to a place where there is no wind.
The second reason for the too faded color of the plant may be a lack of light. But you should not expose the palm tree in direct sunlight: this way it will get burned and covered with spots, the foliage will shrink sluggish. It is better to choose a place for her, illuminated by diffused light, or put it a little further from the window.
Another problem with a palm tree that hovea owners should pay attention to are small black dots. They appear due to non-compliance with the conditions for caring for a houseplant.
Main reasons:
- too high temperature in the room;
- lack of moisture in the soil;
- overflow and low temperature.
If the conditions of detention are not adjusted in time, the palm tree will quickly die. The best option for her is a stable temperature from +20 to +24 ° C and humidity in the range of 60-65%.
If you take proper care of the plant, then the hovea will delight the eye with beautiful green foliage. If she does not like the conditions, then she will immediately signal this to her owners by blackening or yellowing of the foliage, dry tips or small dots.
