Tell me, what should be the soil for the lawn?

Finally, our family has joined the caste of summer residents. This year we bought a plot with a house, we are improving it. We decided to sow lawn grass in front of the house for convenience and beauty. That's just the soil for the lawn, what it should be, and we don't know. Help with advice.

Once you have decided to plant your lawn, there are many questions in front of you. First you need to prepare the area for sowing, remove all debris, roots and stumps. Decide what kind of soil for the lawn will be, what top dressing should be. Next, organize the compaction of the upper soil layer. All these preparatory steps must be passed both for sowing grass and for the device roll lawn... Let's consider all operations in more detail.

Self-preparation of a plot for a lawn

If you are working on an area that has not previously been refined, then you will have to face some difficulties. To begin with, you must completely remove all debris from the territory: stones, branches, construction waste, and so on. The tracks will also have to be removed completely, as all this can prevent further processing of the site.

Stumps and old roots should be uprooted. Also free the area from overgrowth and debris from plantings, especially pay attention to weed control so that they do not germinate on the lawn. Some gardeners advise removing the topsoil to keep weeds free of your lawn. Also, weed control can be carried out with the help of herbicides, which will eradicate all unnecessary plants, penetrating into their stems and roots. The only inconvenience is that it will not be possible to sow the lawn earlier than in six weeks. All this time it will be necessary to destroy the emerging plants.

Digging soil under the lawn

Further actions for preparing the soil are to dig the earth. When using high-quality soil, it is necessary to dig up the area to a depth of no more than one shovel bayonet, be sure to break pieces of soil. Add fertilizer or compost to the soil during the process.

If the site has not been subjected to any processing for a long time, then a more thorough digging is required:

  • Divide the area for the lawn into smaller plots, on each of which remove the top layer of soil and set it aside;
  • Treat the bottom layer of the earth with a pitchfork;
  • Remove the layer from the second plot and fill in the first one;
  • Repeat with the first section.

Don't forget to break up the clods. Add fertilizer, manure, or compost. If on your site there is land with a high clay content, then use drainage to improve its quality. In the form of drainage, crushed stone or gravel is suitable, which is laid on the lower layer of the earth during digging.

Leveling the soil in the area

After digging the site, go over it with a rake. Examine the area to see if it is level enough. If you find hillocks, then move the ground from them to the lowlands, thereby leveling the ground level.

Make sure that the bottom layer of soil does not mix with the top one. For more correct implementation of work on leveling the ground, carry them out on the lower layer of the earth. To do this, remove the top, fertile layer and level the soil, then fill back the top layer.The fertile layer should be about twenty centimeters, this thickness can be achieved by mixing the available land with the purchased land, which will provide better nutrition for the lawn grass.

The final stage of preparation

After leveling the ground, compact it yourself in small steps or with a roller. This is done so that the ground does not sink unevenly after rain. After the first tamping, rake the area and tamp it again.

After all the manipulations, you will get an ideal area for a lawn.
