Features of planting gladioli in open ground

planting gladioli Gladioli are perennial bulbous flowers. They are grown for sale and to decorate a summer cottage in the summer. In the twentieth century, many new varieties of gladiolus were bred. Today there are more than 350 varieties of this bulbous plant. In greenhouses, gladioli are propagated by dividing the bulbs in half. In the spring, half of the bulb will form a large number of babies, but the flower will not throw out the buds. During autumn digging, babies and juvenile bulbs are separated from the mother plant. In greenhouses, all the rules for storing planting material are observed, and by the spring they plant seedlings and adult bulbs in the ground. Before planting gladioli in open ground, it is necessary to prepare the soil, fertilize and water the beds well, and then let them dry completely. Soil preparation

Gladioli do not like clay and heavy soils. Also, these bulbous flowers do not tolerate stagnant water. Therefore, if you plant gladioli bulbs in a swampy area, they will not bloom.

If your site has groundwater close to the soil surface, build tall beds. They are filled with a mixture of sand and lowland peat in equal proportions. In such light soil, gladioli will grow very quickly.

To normalize the acid-base balance of the soil, dolomite flour or slaked lime must be added to the soil in autumn. After adding these components to the garden, the soil is dug up.

Planting gladioli

The gladiolus sevok is planted in the furrows. The distance between the furrows should be 5 cm, and between children or juvenile bulbs - 2 cm. Then horse manure is poured into the furrows for feeding and the rapid growth of gladioli.

If the planting material was not processed before planting, the beds must be shed with a hot solution of potassium permanganate to disinfect the flowers.

Adult gladioli bulbs are planted in separate holes. The depth of the holes should be equal to three diameters of the gladiolus bulb. The deeper you plant the bulbs, the deeper their roots will go into the soil.

If you are planting several varieties of gladiolus, separate the planting material by flowering time and height of the green stem so that the digging can be done at the same time.

As soon as the first shoots of flowers appear, loosen the soil, and in May treat gladioli with insecticidal preparations.
