Planting cosmos - simple secrets to get lush bushes with abundant flowering
Perhaps, there is no such a front garden, in which cosmea would not grow. These flowers were also bred by our grandmothers, because planting cosmos is within the power of any florist. The culture is propagated by seed. Its seeds are so "tenacious" that almost everything sprout, and quite quickly. In just a couple of weeks, tender fluffy plants are already flaunting on the beds. In principle, there are no special requirements for sowing a culture. However, if this is your first time purchasing this flower, we will show you when, where and how best to plant the cosmeia.
You can sow seeds directly in open ground or for seedlings.
When to plant
Depending on the method of planting, its timing also differs. Seedlings are sown for seedlings in March or April. In open ground, you can plant two methods:
- in early spring, as soon as the soil warms up;
- in the fall - then next year the kosmeya will be able to ascend earlier.
Where to plant
Kosmeya is able to grow even in partial shade. However, for a lush and long flowering, it is better to choose a well-lit place for it. This is especially important for large-flowered varieties so that they maintain their size. But if the variety is tall, you should take care that the site is not blown. The shoots of the plant are quite flexible and brittle. They can break under gusts of wind.
The flower does not have special requirements for the composition of the soil. It grows well both on black soil and in sandy soil. But, like most plants, the cosme will be more comfortable in light soil.
In order for the bushes to develop more actively, the garden bed can be additionally fertilized. For this, a small amount of compost and peat is introduced.
Planting cosmos in the garden
You can sow seeds in open ground in long shallow grooves in this way:
- Shed the grooves beforehand.
- Rarely distribute seeds over them, avoiding thickening of the plantings.

The seedling method of growing cosmos is rarely used, since it is more troublesome. However, this option is quite possible. It is enough just to lightly press in and spray generously. Cover the top with glass and place the container on a light and warm windowsill.
