Sowing carnation seeds: the February method of planting seedlings

sowing clove seeds Sowing seeds of cloves in most cases is carried out directly in the open ground. However, some gardeners practice growing it through seedlings in a greenhouse or on a windowsill. In this case, you can experiment with three popular varieties at the same time: Super Duplex (Turkish), Black and White and Raspberry Ripple.

It is recommended to sow the crop immediately in peat tabletsso as not to thin it out later. But this is not always convenient, because the planting material is too small. For this reason, medium-sized containers are prepared for it.

Prompt sowing of clove seeds

Small holes are cut at the bottom of each container. Only then they are filled with universal soil. It is sprayed sparingly and microbiological preparations against fungal / bacterial diseases are applied. One tablet is obtained for 300 ml of soil mixture.

The seeds are then spread over the surface. In order not to deeply deepen them (maximum 0.5-1 cm), slightly mix the top layer of the earth. At the end of the event, the planting is moistened again. Cover containers with lids, which are provided with holes for ventilation. It should be noted that when sowing carnation seeds, a special solution is prepared with a growth accelerator.

The first leaves will appear after 4-5 days. Then the boxes are placed under special lighting - phytolamps. In this case, the temperature in the room should be about 18-20 ° C.

Prerequisites for forcing seedlings are an abundance of light and regular watering, which is carried out once every three days. Water should not stagnate in the ground. It is for this that the drainage holes are provided. Otherwise, the carnation gets sick with a black leg, and getting rid of it is very problematic. Subsequent care of the culture is reduced to the following procedures:

  • picking in 3-4 cm steps into a large container (in this case, the sprouts should rise to 3-5 cm or have from 2 leaves);
  • by mid-spring, they are transferred to separate pots;
  • hardening young plants before planting in open ground: take the containers out into the street first for 1-2 hours, and then gradually increase the interval to 24 hours;
  • it is planted on the site in April / May, when the last frosts have passed (the interval between flowers should be 25-30 cm).

During this period, the culture is very afraid of the cold, as well as drafts. However, in order to avoid stretching the sprouts, the temperature is lowered to 15 ° C in the 4th week. Moreover, it is important to remove diseased specimens from the miniature front garden.

So, sowing seeds of carnations for seedlings is carried out at the end of February. As a result, she will need about 3 months to grow stronger and turn into luxurious flowers.
