The use of medicinal hyssop in our country has found its place only in traditional medicine. The homeland of the perennial is the Mediterranean, but you can find it in the wild in our regions with a warm climate.
What is a plant
Hyssop flowers are located in the axils of the upper leaves. Their shade depends on the variety. It can range from white to deep purple and blue.
In addition to being used as a medicine, hyssop can be used, due to its beautiful appearance, in the landscape design of sites.
Useful medicinal raw materials - correctly collected
For treatment, the ground part of the plant is used - its young leafy shoots. They are cut during the flowering period, which begins in the middle of summer and lasts for a month. Only properly prepared hyssop medicinal can have medicinal use.
After collecting, the shoots must be thoroughly dried. This can be done in one of the following ways:
- The branches are laid out in one loose layer on a flat surface.
- Collect several branches in a bunch, and hang freely.
Drying is carried out in natural conditions in the shade, without exposure to high temperatures. Only under such conditions all useful substances are preserved in raw materials.
In addition to self-procurement of raw materials, you can buy it in a dried form in a pharmacy.
The use of hyssop medicinal in recipes of traditional medicine
The young shoots of the shrub contain many useful substances:
- vitamins;
- acids;
- tannins;
- essential oils and so on.
Most of the nutrients are found in varieties with white flowers.
Using essential oil is just a neat approach
Hyssop medicinal in folk medicine is used for inhalation with essential oil in the following cases:
- bronchitis;
- pharyngitis;
- tracheitis;
- bronchial asthma and so on.
In addition, hyssop essential oil can also be applied externally:
- as an adjunct to massage preparations;
- for the enrichment of cosmetic preparations;
- for medicinal baths;
- with cuts;
- in a complex of measures for certain dermatological diseases (weeping eczema, dermatitis).
Using dry raw materials internally and externally
On the basis of dried raw materials, water infusions for internal and external use are prepared according to folk recipes.

Inside take a decoction of medicinal hyssop for bronchial asthma, colds, pneumonia and other pathologies of the respiratory system.
The infusion has many beneficial properties:

A more concentrated aqueous solution of medicinal hyssop can be used externally in the following cases:

Despite the undemanding cultivation, hyssop is not widespread. The versatility of its medicinal action makes the use of this plant possible for many diseases as part of a set of measures. But, like any drug, hyssop can be used only after consulting a doctor.
