Problems when growing Coral begonia: reddening and drying of the leaves

author's begonia
Indoor coral begonia suffers. It has not bloomed for a long time, but recently the leaves began to deteriorate and fall off. In one case, the color of the leaf changes, becomes lighter, sometimes even reddens and falls off. In another case, the color does not change, but from the edge the sheet becomes thinner and wrinkles, as if scalded with boiling water. Please tell me how to help the plant. Thank!

Coral begonia is sensitive to any change in care. Subject to all recommendations regarding lighting, air temperature and regularity of watering with the beginning of spring, the plant will delight the hostess with beautiful inflorescences. If the begonia refuses to bloom, then there are some errors in the care, or it lacks nutrients. The first signal will be a change in leaf color. The color shade that appears on the deciduous mass will tell you the cause of the problem and its solution.

Reddening of leaves

red begonia leaves

In healthy begonia, the leaves have a characteristic greenish color with white dots. With the arrival of spring and closer to summer, the underside of the leaves takes on a reddish tint. This is normal. However, if the redness spreads over the entire leaf, including its surface, this indicates an excess of lighting. Most often, this phenomenon is observed precisely in the spring, when the sun shines more actively than in winter.

Under the influence of sunlight, begonia leaves begin to lose color and become pale, yellow or red. If you do not move the pot to another place in time, the leaf plates will be covered with burn spots.

Begonia tolerates partial shade well, and it will be more comfortable on a table under the window than in the immediate vicinity of a window glass, which heats up and enhances the effect of sunlight.

Leaves have dried brown patches around the edges

Drying of leaves in begonia can occur in the case of:

  1. Changing the location of the pot... When the leaves begin to dry after moving the pot to another location, it is best to put the plant back. If it is not possible to do this (for example, the rearrangement is associated with an excess of lighting in the old place), the begonia should be fed with complex fertilizers, and the damaged leaves should be removed.
  2. Too dry indoor air or lack of watering... Dried brown leaf tips indicate a lack of moisture. It is necessary to check the earthen lump and not allow it to completely dry out. To humidify the air, place containers with water near the begonia. You can also use a spray bottle to humidify the air around the flower.
  3. From water droplets... Begonia leaves and peduncles should not be sprayed; water, especially under the influence of sunlight, burns in the form of brown spots.

The begonia standing near the heating battery should be immediately rearranged, because it is there that the driest air is, which is harmful to the plant.
