Choosing a place for the rose garden

Roses like good lighting, but not direct sunlight, under which plants can burn leaves. The most suitable place for a rose garden is the northeastern, eastern or southeastern side of the site. There is enough sun in the morning, which is necessary for flowers.

On the south side of the rose bushes buds will be "baked", and on the north side the shoots will stretch out from lack of light.

The rosary should be located in a place protected from drafts. If there is a house on the north side of the site, roses can be planted behind it. The house will reliably shelter the plantings from the cold wind, which will prevent the plants from freezing in winter.

What kind of soil do roses like?

Proud beauties grow well on slightly acidic soils. To create ideal conditions for them when planting seedlings, it is recommended to add peat mixture for indoor plants to the hole. This is especially effective if the future rose garden has to be located in an area contaminated with construction waste (broken brick, remains of stones).

Poor soil should be enriched with humus or compost.

To protect roses from pests and various planting diseases, you will need to treat them with chemicals. This must be taken into account if there is an individual drug intolerance. After all, then all the work will have to be done manually, which is quite difficult with a large rose garden. In this case, no more than 5-6 bushes should be planted.

What is the distance to plant the plants?

Roses need enough space for normal development, otherwise the bushes will close together. Roses love to have air on all sides, so you need to leave a distance between the bushes:

  • on average - at least 80 cm;
  • for tea varieties, it is desirable to retreat 1 m;
  • 50 cm is enough for a curb rose.

Mulching the rose garden

When growing roses, mulch plays an important role. The space between the bushes should be covered with a protective layer that protects the soil from rapid moisture loss and protects against weeds. It is good to use cut grass, rotted bark, humus as mulch. It will rot and at the same time become a fertilizer for roses.

Mulching the rose garden will provide a loose top layer and the rose's root system will get enough air.
