Sliding gates: types and features of their designs

Sliding gates are a fairly simple design, popular for installation in private areas of temporary and permanent use. The base for such gates is a beam (console) fixed to the support at one point.

Varieties of doors by the type of cantilever beams

There are 3 types:

1. Gates equipped with a lower beam. The first support is placed on one side of the opening, the second is located to the right of the width of the structure. The beam is placed from below on them (this is where the door leaf will be). Its width will be from the left side support to the second right side support (almost double the width of the goal). The advantages of such gates are that the rollers are not visible, therefore the design has an attractive appearance.
2. Medium beam gates. The supports and the beam are located in the middle of the door leaf. The structure moves together when opening. The rollers are supported.
3. Top-beam sliding gates. The supports are located at the height of the gate, the rollers are also on the supports.

You should have a place to rollback (look at the length of the beam, not the width of the canvas) structures with a lower beam. Near the fence, rollers are placed on supports, then the beam can move.

Features of cantilever structures

Uneven weight distribution is a characteristic feature of these designs. So, if you take a bar for example and put it on a scale, imagining that it is a bar, the difference in weight will be clearly demonstrated.

A standard beam distributes the load to 2 supports. But at the cantilever gate, one end of the beam turns out to be a canopy. As a result, a load on the support is created that exceeds the weight of the console many times.

Cantilever gates

The movement of the canvas is carried out by moving the support with the rollers on the beam. When installing supports next to fence a pit is dug, where embedded elements (reinforcing binding) will interfere, after which it is poured with concrete mortar. Next, the beam supports are placed.

To reduce the load on the support, a few small rollers are made inside the beam, for example, 6-8 pieces. However, it should be taken into account that this creates a load on the door drive in winter (poor slipping in cold weather). Another way to reduce the load is to use fewer rollers, but with a larger diameter. Usually the rollers are placed outside.

If the site is located in a region with a cold climate, then it is better to prefer a gate with a middle beam, since the drive does not come into contact with snow. The only negative is that the gate is not so attractive, but it is not necessary to clean the snow from the bottom beam.

Hanging gates

Here the supports are loaded evenly.

Hanging sliding gates are appropriate if something is installed above the opening, for example, a canopy.

The mechanism works like this: the beam remains in the same place, and the canvas slides over it. As a rule, it is hung on 3 posts. The opening space is provided for the width of the panel.

Hanging gates for private houses or utility rooms on the site, they are mounted on pillars or ceilings, without arranging an expensive foundation. The top beam can be removed to allow trucks.

Sliding gates on the rail

DIY installation of sliding gates allows you to save money, since the design is quite simple and does not require the inclusion of complex mechanisms. Here the gate is opened and closed along a rail parallel to the fence. The rail is poured with concrete according to the model of a strip foundation.These gates are convenient for people who live seasonally at the dacha (only in summer or part of autumn).

If necessary, you can easily change the design: build a cantilever beam, place the canvas on the suspension element from above.

If you decide to make a built-in wicket, then keep in mind that it is inconvenient for the elderly and children. For this reason, it is better to make separate wickets.

To maintain a good appearance of the structure, the gate must be painted over well initially. The coating should last for 10 years.

If only swing gates can be installed on your site, then it may be convenient for you to install gates with different leaves.

Electrician

With an opening within 3 meters, it is permissible to use the drives for ceilinggarage doors with 3.25 m rail. Drive power supply: 2 cores * 1mm²... If there is a command button from the room - 2 more cores * 1 mm², the audio intercom requires 2 more wires * 1mm², electric lock - 2 cores * 1 mm², electric lighting - 2 more cores 1 mm²... Therefore, it is recommended to lay a ten-core cable.
