Practical tips for growing irises

growing iris in the open field Despite some unpretentiousness of irises, which can actively develop in one place for a long time, it is still worth giving them a little attention, especially at the initial stage - planting. Indeed, often the wrongly chosen place on the site plays a decisive role in the cultivation of irises, not allowing flower growers to admire their gorgeous flowering, and violation of the planting rules completely leads to the death of the plant.

So, what should be considered for novice iris lovers who have decided to add them to their floral collection? We offer a short selection of recommendations from practicing and experienced florists, which will help grow irises.

Where is the best place to plant?

For irises, it is necessary to take a solar flower bed, because these plants are not particularly susceptible to fading. Like most flowering crops, irises need sunlight to flower.

To prolong the flowering of irises, they can be planted in partial shade.

It is worth noting that irises feel good in the shade of trees, provided that the latter have a narrow elongated crown and openwork foliage, for example, like a columnar plum.

What kind of soil do irises like?

Irises are among those plants that need loose, permeable soil. They will grow well even in sandy soil.

Heavy clay soil is not suitable for growing irises. It retains moisture, as a result of which the rhizomes, which themselves are quite water-absorbing, begin to rot. In this case, a sand pillow should be made in the hole.

How to plant correctly?

The root system of irises is on the surface and does not grow much in depth, which must be taken into account when planting plants.

The iris tuber is not completely buried in the ground. It is enough to dig such a hole to accommodate short roots growing from the tuber, through which the iris feeds. The upper part of the tuber itself (where the stem is attached to it) should protrude slightly above the ground.

When planting irises, it should also be borne in mind that the bushes change their location slightly over time. This is important if you plan to plant bushes in an even row. So that the flowers do not "crawl" out of the row, the tuber should be placed, laying it with its growth point strictly in the direction of the row.
