Washed away aphids are usually eaten by garden insects, as they are food for other insects (wasps, spiders, ladybugs).

Aphids should be washed off for several days in a row to wash off the newly appeared insects from the eggs. You can often see ladybirds or birds on rose bushes. In no case should you drive them away, since it is they who eat the aphids, while saving the plants from damage.

The most effective aphid remedies include:

How to get rid of aphids on roses using folk remedies?

marigolds with rosesReal gardeners have a lot of tricks on how to deal with aphids on roses. With their help, roses can be grown carefully, protecting the plants from pests. The most common way to control aphids is to protect roses with other plants, for example marigolds... The specific pungent smell of marigolds planted around rose bushes repels aphids and protects roses from damage and diseases.

Soap solution is also popular in the fight against aphids. They should process roses as soon as the slightest signs of infestation first appear. It is very simple to prepare such a solution. Place a bar of laundry soap in a bucket of water so that the soap dissolves and the water becomes soapy. For the quickest dissolution of soap in water, it is recommended to first grate it. The prepared solution must be poured into the sprayer and the entire surface of the shrubs must be treated, paying special attention to the affected areas.

If the rose bushes are densely covered with aphids, it is necessary to thoroughly wash the leaves, branches, and flowering buds with soapy water. To make the job easier, just gently dip the plant in a bucket of soapy water. This method of processing will save roses from pests without causing any harm. The only caveat is to be careful when handling so as not to break the stems of the plant.

To get rid of aphids on roses with the help of folk remedies, it is best to use infusions of potato tops, young shoots of garlic, onion husks, tomato tops, wormwood. For cooking, it is enough to insist the raw materials flooded with water for at least a day, and then spray the roses.

Aphid chemicals

It is necessary to get rid of aphids with the help of chemicals only if folk remedies and mechanical cleaning have not yielded positive results. Before sprinkling roses with aphids, you need to purchase certified insecticides. It is advisable to do this in special gardening shops.

When choosing a suitable remedy for aphids, it is better to give preference to preparations that indicate that they are suitable specifically for roses.

aktara insecticideThe best proven chemicals for aphids are:

  • Kinmix;
  • "Decis";
  • "Spark";
  • Intavir;
  • Fitoverm;
  • "Aktara".

Do not forget that the use of strong chemicals can harm both the pests themselves and the plants and other harmless inhabitants of the garden. It is best to give preference to more gentle methods of dealing with aphids.

It is important for flower growers to observe the following rule: go around the flower beds every day, inspect the rose gardens, take care of the plants as necessary, and regularly examine them for aphid damage.

Healthy, intact roses, for which constant care is carried out and periodic measures are taken against pests, look like this:

Cons of chemical processing

In garden plots, it is not recommended to use chemicals to combat aphids, since after treatment:

  • it becomes impossible to use rose petals for cosmetic and culinary purposes;
  • the insecticides used are dangerous for fruits and vegetables growing nearby;
  • pests get used to the drugs and become immune.

It is more advisable to use environmentally friendly means for processing roses, periodically changing and alternating them.

    Thanks for the interesting article. Everything is very clear and detailed. I really love roses and have been growing them for many years. Indeed, the problem with aphids on roses is very common. The best drug for me to fight aphids is Decis, it reliably and for a long time destroys aphids.I tried, of course, and soap solution and mechanical methods, but they are less effective. I was very interested in the article about the proximity of roses and marigolds. I will definitely try.

    Good day. The aphids were treated with a solution of vinegar and soap. How often should this procedure be carried out, taking into account that the weather in the Moscow region is humid. And the second question. Ladybugs appeared on the bushes. I saved them before spraying, as I am afraid to destroy them. The spider is dead. But they are again on sheets. Is vinegar dangerous for them, is it necessary to use a different method of processing? thank

      It is necessary to process roses with soapy water several times, as new pests appear. Eggs may remain on the leaves and buds that are not washed off with the solution, and over time, the next generation of aphids appears from them. Therefore, it is important to regularly inspect roses for pests and, if necessary, re-process them. By the way, a simple soap solution (without vinegar), provided that it is reused, does an excellent job with this task. As for vinegar, then, most likely, it is still capable of harming the ladybug, since it is primarily acid.
      To prevent the ladybugs from being harmed, you can simply try to wash off the aphids with water on the ground, where fallen cows will also eat them, or pick them up with your hands. True, this will also have to be done more than once.
