A successful peony planting depends on the choice of soil

planting a peony Planting a peony is the next step after the plant has been dug up and divided. At the same time, it is important to carefully handle the seedling so as not to hurt its thin suction roots. As a result, they will be able to perfectly settle down in a new place.

The optimal season for the procedure is autumn. Wet weather promotes successful root acclimatization, but without the premature awakening of dormant buds. In the spring, they wake up early (impossible to guess), and dig them up late, which leads to the depletion of culture.

Landing pit and its contents

An overall hole is dug on the site. Its standard depth is 60 cm, and its width is 50 cm. Since the culture will grow in one place for 6 years, the hole is filled with a huge amount of nutrient soil. Without a good supply of useful components, the flower will disappear. Therefore, when planting a peony, the main substrate is mixed with:

  • grass compost (it is recommended to add wood ash to it);
  • rotted manure;
  • mineral or complex fertilizers.

Even rotted manure is capable of concealing hidden dangers. Often pathogenic bacteria, as well as causative agents of dangerous diseases, remain in this mass.

After the hole was covered with planting soil, it is left in this state for 1-2 days so that the earth settles under the weight of its weight. This will prevent the root system from going too deep. If there is no time to wait, then the soil is compacted by hand and spilled. When the liquid is absorbed, pick up the seedling.

Direct planting of a peony

The buds of the culture should be deepened only 5 cm from the soil surface. Otherwise, they will freeze a little every winter, which will make the flowering miserable. But if they are lowered below the specified mark, then the delicate kidneys simply will not have enough strength to break out. A stick is used as a level, which is placed across the hole, and the depth of penetration is adjusted along it.

Having covered it with earth, it is advisable to pour it abundantly with warm water. This will help prevent voids from forming. It should also be borne in mind that absorbing moisture, the soil will begin to sag. Therefore, its stock must be replenished. As soon as the liquid disappears, the planting circle is filled with a nutrient substrate. Among other things, this procedure will prevent the formation of a crust on the surface.

After dividing the bush, "blind" roots remain, which may have excellent data. If they have suction roots and a thin isthmus, then they are able to come to life. They are planted in an upright position. Literally in a year, young leaves will hatch on them.

So, planting a peony is a very simple process. The main thing is to provide the plant with nutritious soil and properly deepen the root collar. The rest of the culture will do itself.
