Fertilization of indoor plants with ash: methods and features of application

I have been using ash for planting potatoes for a long time, and recently a neighbor advised me to use it for flowers. Tell me how to use ash to fertilize indoor plants? Can I apply it directly to the potting soil?

ash as fertilizer for flowers As you know, organic fertilizers play an important role in the development of various crops, including flowers. They provide plants with the necessary supply of microelements, moreover, they are affordable and do not require significant financial investments.

Ash is one such fertilizer for indoor plants. After spring or autumn pruning garden trees and shrubs, many branches remain, which are usually burned. The resulting ash is an excellent basis for organic fertilizing of flowering and ornamental plants. After making the ash, it begins to rapidly assimilate, it has a rich mineral composition and is absolutely harmless to humans.

Experienced florists recommend using ash for feeding pot crops grown indoors, as follows:

  2. For direct soil application... Add to the substrate when planting (transplanting) flowers at the rate of 2 tbsp. l. for 1 kg of soil mixture. For further dressing, apply to the top layer of the earth.

Ash as a remedy for pests

ash solution

As a prophylaxis and control of small insects such as aphid, indoor flowers must be sprayed with an ash-based solution. To enhance the sticking effect, soap is added to the solution. Large-leaved specimens can be processed on a sheet - gently wipe them with a piece of cloth dipped in a solution. Flowers with small leaves are simply powdered with ash.

The procedure should be carried out in the evening, and then for several days, avoid exposure to sunlight on the leaves of plants, and also do not spray them with water.

How does ash work on indoor plants?

ash feeding

As a result of fertilizing flowers with ash:

  • the structure of the soil improves, which has a beneficial effect on the growth of crops;
  • photosynthesis is activated, and nutrients quickly enter the leaves and flower buds;
  • the water balance is being improved;
  • increased resistance to diseases and pests.

In what cases is it impossible to process flowers with ash?

It is not recommended to fertilize with ashes indoor flowers that like acidic soil (anthurium, azalea, indoor cypress), since ash tends to reduce acidity.

In addition, ash cannot be used for fertilizing:

  • in case of plant disease with interveinal chlorosis;
  • with an excess of potassium in the soil;
  • earlier than 3 weeks after fertilization with nitrogen preparations.

You cannot use urea, manure and saltpeter, as well as nitrogen-phosphate mineral fertilizing together with ash.
