Home care for ginger shoots

ginger on the windowsill When growing ginger, especially indoors, it is important to create suitable conditions for the plant and properly care for young sprouts so as not to ruin them with excessive attention or lack of it.

Timely care measures play a large role not only at the germination stage, but also in the process of further development of ginger, right up to harvest, and include:

  • the correct choice of the plant "habitat";
  • timely watering;
  • periodic feeding.

At home ginger most often grows as an annual, since the main purpose of growing is the crop - the roots. However, it can be used for several years as an ornamental plant that also blooms. In this case, the bush is left to winter in a pot, without digging out the shoots after drying, and in the spring they are fed with preparations for decorative flowering plants. Conditions for keeping ginger

Delicate ginger leaves are very sensitive to sunlight, so it is better to choose western or eastern window sills as a "place of residence", where there is bright but diffused lighting. Direct rays will burn out the leaf plates, and the plant will simply die. On the other hand, the north side is not very suitable for growing ginger - there the bush will suffer from a lack of light and grow slowly.

If only southern windows are present in the house or apartment, they must be well darkened.

With the arrival of spring, or even summer, it is advisable to take the plant pot out into the open air. There the ginger will develop more actively and grow roots. But you can take it outside only if the weather is warm there. Ginger will not survive a temperature drop even to 1 degree frost.

On the street, the flowerpot must also be placed in the shade of trees or under a canopy so that direct rays do not fall on it. The main thing is that with the arrival of autumn and a cold snap, do not forget to take it back to the room.

Watering mode

Ginger is a moisture-loving plant, so watering should be abundant and frequent. However, it is necessary to ensure that no water remains in the pan after watering, as this will lead to decay. The top layer of soil in between waterings should dry out two centimeters. It is useful to periodically spray the foliage, ginger responds very well to such water procedures.

Use soft settled water for irrigation.

By October, the abundance of watering should be gradually reduced slightly so that the ginger begins to actively grow tubers.

The role of dressings in plant development

To help the plant develop in a confined space, that is, in a pot, it must be periodically fed. Fertilizers are used in the same way as for other crops:

  • nitrogenous - at the initial stages of development for the growth of deciduous mass:
  • potash and phosphorus - for flowering (if necessary) and fruiting.
