We grow brugmansia in a pot at home
Brugmansiya is often called a dope, however, she is only his relative. This amazing plant fascinated flower growers with its unique flowers - large bells with a heady aroma. Its double forms are especially charming, when a powerful bush is completely covered with huge multilayer inflorescences. Some varieties of the flower have elongated petals, gradually tapering towards the ends, making the inflorescences look very impressive.
In southern latitudes where winters are warm brugmansia grown in the garden, but most often the flower she "lives" in pots. At home, as an ornamental plant, tree brugmansia is grown.
What is a flower?
Brugmansiya grows in a bush or small tree, depending on the formation. The average height of the plant is 1.5 m, but there are also larger specimens, up to 2 m. On powerful shoots there are large leaves, matte, green.
Abundant flowering, large numbers of inflorescences hang from branches and look like pipes. The long narrow base of the flower turns into an open gramophone up to 15 cm in diameter.The total length of the flower itself is about 25 cm, but there are also large-flowered species with a length of more than 30 cm.The inflorescences emit a pleasant sweet aroma: there are varieties that smell like lily of the valley and even apricot. The color of flowers is mainly represented by gentle warm tones (white, pink, yellow), but there are also saturated cold colors (blue, purple).
All parts of brugmansia are poisonous as they contain hazardous substances. When caring for her, you should work with gloves.
Growing features
Brugmansia in the spring-summer period is distinguished by good growth, both of the aerial part and of the root system, but the stems lignify slowly.
It is recommended to move the pot to the open air during this time.
Growing brugmansia as a pot culture, you must adhere to the following recommendations:
- The lightest place in the house should be allocated for the flower, since it is very light-loving. The exception is wintering in a cool room: if it is not possible to provide the plant with sufficient lighting in the house, it is better to send the pot to the cellar.
- Brugmansiya does not tolerate low temperatures. In summer, she feels good at 26 degrees of heat, but if in winter it is below 5 degrees, she dies.
- During rapid growth, it needs abundant watering, with the onset of flowering, you can increase the time between waterings. During the dormant period, watering the flower should be rare, only so that the earth does not completely dry out.
- Brugmansia loves feeding and it is impossible to overfeed it. In the spring, for this purpose, complex fertilizers are used so that the bush grows green mass, and in the summer you can use preparations for flowering crops.
Since the flower grows quickly, it must be transferred to a larger pot several times a season.
