Growing lumbago in a flower bed

With the onset of stable heat, spring flowers appear in the forest, among which the lumbago looks very unusual (pulsatilla, sleep-grass). However, in garden plots, the cultivation of lumbago is quite possible, subject to certain rules. This plant pleases with large bright flowers, there are several types (the result of selection) and shades.

Due to their high popularity, unscrupulous sellers often dig up sleepy grass bushes in the forest and sell them. However, such plants do not take root, since when they are excavated, the long taproot is damaged.

Growing lumbago seedlings

Since lumbago does not tolerate transplantation, this plant can only be grown by seed. In our latitudes, about 20 species of pulsatilla are grown. In order to get seedlings, you need seed stratification lumbago. In nature, scattered seeds are on the surface of the soil; they go through several stages of drying and moistening. The spine moistened with the seed is "embedded" into the soil. Approximately the same conditions must be created when planting seedlings.

Sowing seeds is carried out in early spring, in the first half of March. Some people practice autumn sowing of lumbago, but in this case germination will be low.

How to plant a lumbago with seeds

There are a number of factors that need to be taken into account to obtain good seedlings:

• freshness of seeds;
• the soil;
• germination conditions.

If the seeds are fresh, they are not additionally treated before sowing. How to plant lumbago seeds if they are old-fashioned? It is recommended to soak them for 2 hours in a stimulant solution (for example, in Epin, succinic acid). This treatment improves the seed germination ability.

In order for shoots to appear from the seed, light is required. If the seeds are buried, the germination will be poor, and the shell rot is more likely. It is enough to spread the seeds on the surface of moist soil and sprinkle with a thin layer of sand. You can initially plant the lumbago in separate containers, for which the seed is buried half of its height.

When sowing a lumbago flower on seedlings, which is grown at home, it is recommended to use light soil. You can make a soil mixture yourself, for which leaf (forest) soil and coarse river sand are taken in equal parts. The day before sowing the seeds, the soil is well moistened.

After sowing, the container is kept at a temperature of 22-25 C heat. Periodically, the crops are ventilated, monitoring the soil moisture. It must not be allowed to dry out, otherwise the emerging seedlings will die.

Usually the first shoots appear 3 weeks after sowing. However, sometimes the germination process is delayed, then it is recommended to stop watering for two weeks, and then resume in compliance with all the rules of agricultural technology. This is an imitation of natural growth conditions that will help the seeds germinate.

The next question is how to grow lumbago after receiving shoots? When 2-3 true leaves are formed on the plant, you can start picking. The transplant capacity should be chosen deep, which will ensure the normal development of the root system.

Glasses, half a liter in volume, are quite suitable for growing lumbago at home throughout the year.

You should not rush to plant very young plants of lumbago in a permanent place in the garden, since the root system is not well enough formed. It is recommended to replant seedlings one year after sowing.

In order for the lumbago to take root well, planting and caring for the seedlings must be proper. A slightly shaded place in the garden will be optimal for planting. In nature, this plant is usually found in open areas. The lumbago can be planted in southern areas if the place has a slight slope and rainwater does not stagnate. Lumbago does not tolerate excess moisture and dampness. Sleep grass will decorate the alpine slide, rockery, a flower bed with low flowers. You can transplant seedlings of lumbago from spring to autumn, trying to carry out transshipment while preserving a lump of earth.

If the soil on the site is heavy, sand or other drainage material is added to it. The plant grows well on loams, alkaline soils. Abundant flowering can be achieved by growing lumbago on fertile soils. Before transplanting, the soil is dug up with the addition of sand, peat, and a small amount of mineral fertilizers. The hole is no more deep than the height of the glass in which the seedlings grew. There should be a distance of about 40-50 cm between the transplanted plants.

It is especially beautiful when it blooms with large buds and there are several of its species in the garden. In general, the first buds of sleep-grass are thrown out at 3-4 years of age.

How to sow lumbago with seeds in open ground

The agrotechnology of direct cultivation with seeds in the open field practically does not differ from home cultivation. It is necessary to add peat, sand, "mineral water" to the soil.

Seeds of lumbago are scattered on wet ground in June-July, after which a light shade or a mini-greenhouse is made over the sowing site. The temperature inside should be at 22-25 22С. Naturally, the soil should be periodically moistened and the shelter should be ventilated.

If seeds of high-mountainous species of lumbago are used for sowing, they should be stratified, therefore they are sown in the fall.

Seeds are sealed to a depth of 1.5 cm, filling in a thick layer. So that they do not freeze in winter, the sowing site is covered with straw. In the spring, such a shelter is removed with the onset of heat.

With direct sowing, shoots into open ground appear in a month. It can be practiced if you have a lot of seeds, as the germination rate will not be high.
