I found these flowers in last year's seed stocks, probably I didn’t see or simply forgot to sow them. Since their deadlines are already running out, I decided not to waste time and sow them now. It's still warm outside, it looks like it's far away from frost, can we plant erigeron before winter? And in general, what is he like, hibernates in the garden or freezes out?

Its small flowers resemble miniature chamomiles, and the bushes look like clumps of perennial asters. Erigeron blooms all summer and until frost, planting and care (photo will be further) for which are as simple as possible. This is one of those plants that can practically live on its own. Most of the hassle comes predominantly with planting, especially if you have opted for seed propagation. The grown flowers will be enough to water sometimes. At the same time, they feel great without feeding and winter well in the open field.

The plant belongs to the aster family, because it is not for nothing that the structure of its inflorescences so resembles asters. This is a herbaceous bush with a height of 15 to 80 cm, depending on the varieties, there are almost four hundred. The shoots of the bushes are erect or slightly inclined, very few branches and rough to the touch. Leaves are elongated, basal for the most part, forming a dense, beautiful rosette.

Erigeron blooms from June to October, until frost hits. The inflorescences are small, for which the culture was called "small-petal", with a large yellow core, like that of chamomiles. The diameter of the flowers does not exceed 4 cm, each variety has its own color. These are mainly white, pink, yellow, blue, lilac colors and their shades.

Most of the small petal species are perennial. Less commonly, you can find annuals and biennial flowers.

Where and how to plant erigeron

You can propagate a culture in one of the following ways:

1. Seeds - Sow outdoors in either early spring or fall. But some varieties are difficult to sprout, so it is better to plant them on seedlings. By the way, this method will bring flowering closer.
2. Cuttings. Separate the young shoot at the beginning of summer so that it comes off with part of the roots. Root it in a glass or just in a separate place. And when it grows up, transplant it to a permanent flower bed.
3. Delenki. This is the fastest way to get an already independent and adult plant. Moreover, it will bloom in the current season. To do this, dig up an old bush in the spring, divide it into parts and plant it.

For abundant and long-lasting flowering, plant erigeron in a lighted area. Although it will also survive in partial shade, there will simply be fewer buds. The flower is not picky about the soil, the only thing that cannot be categorically allowed is waterlogging.

Caring for erigeron bushes is actually very simple and not cumbersome. It is often not necessary to water it unless it rains in summer. You don't even need to fertilize, although one application of the mineral complex during the bud ovary period will prolong its flowering and make it even more abundant. If you have tall varieties, you may need to tie them up. It is convenient to plant such species immediately in one row, then pulling a rope along it.

Erigeron's wintering will not be a problem either.Its root system is not afraid of frost, and the aboveground part of perennial varieties still dies off. You can cut it back in the fall or leave it in the spring. It is enough to mulch the bush with grass or sawdust and you don't have to worry about wintering it. In the spring, the small petal will quickly increase its previous volumes again, and during the season it will become even wider.
