If you want to start a livestock of pigs in winter, then you need to insulate the pigsty. Winter pig breeding has its own subtleties. Not all pig breeds are suitable for winter rearing. For example, pot-bellied pigs do not tolerate drafts and low temperatures. Pigs of this breed are herbivores. Animal feed will not work for them.
When growing in winter, calcium and protein must be included in the diet of the livestock. The main thing during winter feeding is to maintain the weight that the pig has gained during the autumn period, but weight gain can also be achieved.
Piglet nutrition
In winter, pigs should be fed primarily hay. It is necessary to add compound feed, carrots and beets to the feeder. You also need to increase the dose of wheat bran to 40 kg per individual. In winter, pigs practically do not gain weight, the task of the pig breeder is to ensure the preservation of weight, therefore, raw potatoes are used as the main feed at the rate of 50 kg per one teenage pig. Carrots and beets are added as additional vegetables at the rate of 10 kg per individual. Compound feed is given a little more - 15 kg per pig.
If possible, add milk whey to the diet of adolescent piglets. 10 liters of serum is consumed per month per individual. Also add Felucene vitamins to dry food. Consumption per individual - half a bag per month.
With such a diet vietnamese pigs keep the gained weight stably. Train your piglets to eat hay and potatoes can be gradually phased out. Mix a little hay into the feed so the pigs get used to chewing it. Gradually reduce the proportion of potatoes in the feed and increase the proportion of hay.

Two months before slaughtering a pig, exclude beets from its diet and double the proportion of carrots, since beets impair the quality of meat.

Walking piglets
Vietnamese pigs tolerate frosts well to -20ABOUTC, but they are prone to obesity in the winter. If you are raising pigs for lard, then you do not need to walk them. But if you plan to get the maximum amount of meat, then walking piglets in winter is a very important procedure. Take the piglets for a walk every three days, then they will be active and not obese.
