Badan - gorgeous perennial flowering

I found several varieties of badan in a flower shop - I want to plant them in a flower bed in such a way that the plants replace each other as the flowering ends. Tell me, when does berserk bloom?

thick-leaved incense Florists who love ground cover plants and carpet beds quite often use badan in their plots. This evergreen perennial from the Kamnelomkovy family is very docile and grows well almost anywhere.

The plant consists of low bushes, a feature of which is a thick rhizome. It spreads directly on the ground and can grow up to several meters in length. Despite the fact that berry grows rather slowly, many lateral rosettes with a large number of leaves are formed on the main shoot. Over time, the bush occupies an ever larger area, displacing not only neighboring flowers, but also weeds. Badan leaves are also the subject of his pride: they are very large, with a thick leaf plate, painted in dark green color with a glossy sheen, attached to the rhizome with long petioles. In some varieties, slight pubescence is present.

The flower has other names: star anise, bergenia (in honor of the botanist of the same name) or "elephant ears" (because of the wide shape of the leaves).

Flowering features

When badan blooms, long peduncles without leaves rise above the bush, at the very top of which there are inflorescences, similar to small bells. The flower has 5 petals fused at the base. On one peduncle there can be more than 100 of them, the color varies from white to dark shades of pink, and even it is scarlet.

It is noteworthy that the peduncles continue to grow during flowering, and at the end they rise above the bush, reaching more than half a meter in height.

Flowering time

ciliated incense

Perennial flowering, like most plants, occurs in spring. Depending on the badan varieties blooming time of inflorescences and the total duration of flowering can be different:

  1. Heart-leaved incense... Blooms in May, flowering lasts no more than three weeks;
  2. Thick-leaved incense... Inflorescences bloom at the end of April and decorate the bush for up to 1.5 months.
  3. Pacific badan... In natural conditions, it blooms in early spring for a month, but when grown in the garden, the flowering can move by 2 months.
  4. Ugam badan... It produces flower stalks in the middle of summer and blooms until the end of August.
  5. Ciliated incense... Flowers appear in early spring.
  6. Purple incense... Blooms in May.

Sometimes there are times when the perennial blooms again in August, but this is more the exception than the rule.
