Making a quick apple strudel pie

apple strudel pie One of the most delicious pies, strudel is traditionally prepared in Austria. It can have a wide variety of fillings, such as cottage cheese or nuts, but apple strudel is a culinary classic. It is not difficult to prepare it, but it can be done quickly enough.

Preparing the base for the cake

As always, the dough must be made first. It should be elastic and a little puffy. For this:

  • sift a quarter of a kilogram of flour (so that it falls like a slide);
  • add ¼ tsp. salt;
  • make a depression in the center of the slide and drive 1 egg into it;
  • gently knead the egg into flour;
  • as soon as the egg began to grab the flour, pour in a tablespoon of olive oil;
  • mix a little and add half a glass of warm water;
  • knead and knead the lump well with your hands.

You can use sunflower oil instead of olive oil.

To give the dough a flaky effect, you need to divide it into two parts and form balls. Knead the dough well again until the balls become elastic and smooth. Then make a cake out of one ball, pour a little oil on top and cover with a cake from the second ball. Knead the dough again until it absorbs all the butter.

Sprinkle the finished pie dough with butter and cover with a bowl, let stand a little.

Cooking the filling

While the dough is infused, you can do apples - because the strudel will be with these fruits. For this amount of dough, you need 8-10 medium fruits.

Wash the apples, wipe and cut into two halves. Remove the center of the seeds, cut into thin half rings and sprinkle with lemon juice so as not to darken. You do not need to peel it.

For pies, it is better to use only aromatic and juicy apples, for example, a seven.

Also for the filling you will need:

  • 80 g raisins (scalded with boiling water);
  • some crackers for crumbs;
  • 70 g almonds (chopped).

Instead of crackers, ordinary shortbread cookies are also suitable, which should be crumbled.

Separately, in a small bowl, pour 50 g of sugar and a little cinnamon (on the tip of a knife), mix.

Combine the dough with filling

Cover the table with a towel, sprinkle with flour and roll out the dough right on it into a thin layer, which is liberally anointed with softened butter. Sprinkle breadcrumbs over the dough and place the apples evenly. Sprinkle chopped almonds and sugar with cinnamon on top of the fruit.

On one side of the reservoir, leave an empty strip 10 centimeters wide.

Finely chop a little butter and put on the filling. This will make it more juicy.

Now, using a towel, gently roll the dough into a roll to the place where the empty strip was left. Make a seam out of it: walk along the entire strip with a brush, dipping it in a mixture of yolk and milk, and press firmly. With the same mixture, go over the whole cake. Bake strudel within 40 minutes.
