Dendrobium Nobile has faded: what to do with the orchid next

Last year I was presented with a dendrobium nobile, and in winter it pleased me with delicate white flowers. There were so many of them that the branches could hardly bear such a load. But now there are practically no inflorescences left, and I would like to know how to care for a flower. Tell me what to do next after the dendrobium nobile orchid has faded? I heard that the arrows should be cut off, and the bush itself should be transplanted. Will this be the right decision?

dendrobium fades Dendrobium nobile orchid is not inferior in the beauty of its flowering to all beloved phalaenopsis, and perhaps even surpasses them. Indeed, when rather tall leafy stems, sometimes reaching 50 cm, are strewn with bunches of magnificent inflorescences, it is impossible to take your eyes off such a sight. But it all ends someday, and even this long-flowering plant needs rest and restoration. What to do next, when the dendrobium nobile orchid has faded, and what questions most often concern flower growers in such a situation? So let's figure it out.

Peduncle pruning: is it necessary or not?orchid after flowering

Perhaps one of the most important questions after the end of the flowering of dendrobium is the pruning of the peduncle. However, do not immediately take up the scissors, because even phalaenopsis very often re-forms buds on a faded peduncle. In dendrobium, the flowers are located on the same stem as the leaves, so they (pseudobulbs) can be green for a long time. In addition, it is possible that there are still unblown flower buds in some part of the stem, because there are many of them along the entire length. Cutting it off prematurely means not letting the orchid completely "bloom", as well as depriving young shoots of nutrients, because they get them for the first time from the pseudobulb.

Stems that are completely dry definitely need pruning - they have already fulfilled their purpose.

Do you always need to replant your orchid?dendrobium faded

Another important point concerns the transplant dendrobium nobile after it fades. It all depends on the flower itself, or rather, its "health" and age.

Dendrobium nobile, which is more than two years old and during this time was not disturbed, must be transplanted after flowering.

As for young orchids, it is better not to disturb them once again, and they should be transplanted into a new substrate only in such cases:

  • plant disease (yellowing of leaves, decay of roots, etc.);
  • the appearance of pests in a pot or on a flower.

A sick or damaged orchid must be treated with special preparations.

So what to do with a faded orchid, considering the above points? Nothing special, just:

  1. Move the flowerpot to a cooler room.
  2. If there are green shoots, water as needed.
  3. Can be fed with nitrogen fertilizer to stimulate the formation of new shoots and leaves.
