Two methods of breeding actinidia

propagation of actinidia by cuttings Actinidia arguta is a small-fruited subspecies of actinidia that can be grown in cold climates. Some varieties of this subspecies can withstand frosts down to -26ABOUTC. Chinese actinidia is a large-fruited subspecies of the plant. It is more thermophilic, so it cannot be grown in Russia and countries with a cold changeable climate. Actinidia loves light, fertile soil with the addition of a large amount nitrogen fertilizers... Since this plant needs cross-pollination, a male bush is planted next to the female shrubs. After pollination of female bushes, a large number of ovaries will form (up to 2000 fruits from one bush per season). After harvesting, magnesium-containing and nitrogen fertilizers are applied under the actinidia bush.

In the fall, when the actinidia vines shed their leaves, shrubs can be propagated. There are two ways to propagate actinidia: cuttings and layering.

Before breeding actinidia, it is necessary to prepare the landing site. The fruiting branch is very heavy, if it falls to the ground, then all the fruits will rot, therefore, a trellis made of thick metal pipes and a chain-link mesh with large cells are installed on the bed with actinidia.

Reproduction by layering

When the supports are ready, you can propagate actinidia by layering. It is necessary to take a three-year-old vine shoot and dig it into the ground to a depth of 8-10 cm. In order for the shoot to produce layering, the soil is shed with a growth stimulator, for example, "Kornevin". Then the soil is mulched. You can use pebbles, broken bricks or high moor peat as mulch. In the spring, a week before the buds should wake up, the mulch is removed. After sprouting, you need to water the soil well. A year after feeding from the root system of the mother plant, the layers are separated with a pruner. Next, the vine is tied to trellises.

Propagation by cuttings

If you want to plant actinidia throughout the site, then you can propagate it by cuttings. For harvesting cuttings, you need to choose a two-year lateral shoot of the vine. It is cut into pieces with four to five buds. Then a straight cut is made at one end of the cutting, and an oblique cut at the other. More roots will be formed from the slant cut. The cuttings are wrapped in a damp cloth. The planting material is harvested in a warm place for a week, after such germination, white stripes will appear on the oblique cut. Such seedlings must be planted in the ground immediately.
