How to propagate mallow: we breed a stock-rose on the site

how to propagate mallow The beautiful mallow was undeservedly forgotten for a long time and was considered “grandmother's flower”, but today it is becoming popular again. If you have seen her bloom at least once, you probably wondered how to propagate mallow. The slender stem rose with proud tall stems dotted with large bell flowers is truly charming. Therefore, having planted just a couple of bushes, many growers eventually turn the site into a "kingdom of mallow".

How to propagate mallow

Mallow propagates by seed and vegetative means, like most horticultural crops. Each of them has its own characteristics in view of the nature of the development of the plant.

Mallow propagation by seeds

Stock-rose rich in planting material. After the flowering of the inflorescences, in their place, round, ball-like boxes with seeds are tied. When they are completely dry, you can harvest the seeds by opening the pod and shaking them out. The seeds themselves are large enough to facilitate the planting process.

You can sow seeds in one of the following ways:

  1. In the spring, immediately in open ground (April) or for seedlings (March). When planting directly into the garden, the mallow will bloom only next summer. Seedling bushes bloom in the current season.
  2. In the fall on a flower bed. In the spring, the mallow will rise and can bloom in the summer.

Germination of mallow seeds increases with time. Of course, you can sow freshly harvested seeds, but be prepared that only a little will sprout. Seeds that have lain for 2 years will have more shoots, and in total they can be stored for up to 4 years.

The seed method is good, but still has one drawback: the loss of varietal traits. Terry varieties especially "suffer" from this - it is better to propagate them vegetatively.

Features of vegetative reproduction of stockrose

Varietal mallows reproduce mainly vegetatively, which allows you to preserve doubleness. This can be done using:

  1. Cherenkov. Young twigs are used for rooting. You can cut the plant in spring or summer. In early spring, it is necessary to cut off the shoot that has appeared as close to the roots as possible. In summer, you can take branches on the main stem. Root in pots, at first - under a hood. As soon as the stalk starts growing and gets a little stronger, it can be transplanted into the garden, preferably by transshipment. In the first wintering, a young stock-rose should be sent with shelter.
  2. Delenok. It is better to start dividing in early spring, while the bushes have not yet begun to lay flower stalks. 2-year-old bushes are suitable for reproduction: they should be dug up and carefully divided into parts. Older plants can be used as a last resort. Malva is not very fond of transplanting. Delenki obtained from an old large bush take longer to take root and may even hurt.

As you can see, propagating mallow is not at all difficult and within the power of anyone who is at least superficially familiar with growing flowers. If you have little experience and have doubts, just sow the seeds before winter. And fans of experiments will be interested in watching the rooting of cuttings and cuttings.
