Stock-rose is a drought-resistant and winter-hardy plant that grows well in latitudes with a temperate climate, including in Russia. It is also a light-loving plant, but it also tolerates partial shade quite well.

Mallow, according to the period of plant development, is divided into two types:

  1. annual;
  2. biennial;

The way to use the stock rose in flower arrangements cannot be compared with anything else. Looks great in single plantings, in group plantings with other deciduous and ornamental plants; goes well with both tall and low-growing plants in flower beds, mixborders and flower beds.

Landing

Stock roses are usually planted with seeds.

Planting stem-rose seeds in open ground is best done in spring, when the sun has already warmed the earth. Considering that mallow is a rather tall and lush plant, seeds are planted with an interval of 30-50 cm. It is advisable to sow seeds in a hole in 3-5 pieces, in view of the fact that mallow has poor germination and does not tolerate transplanting well. It is much better to remove excess seedlings than to waste time and reseed again.

Planting a rose stock with seedlingsPlanting stock roses with seedlings is more troublesome, but pleasant. In order to achieve the effect of flowering stock-rose in the summer, they start planting seeds already in early February. Seeds are sown in a container with soil and placed in a cool place under a film.

The temperature for seed germination should not exceed 18-20about C. When the seeds have hatched, the film is removed, and the seedlings are thinned out at intervals of 2 cm or in separate containers. With the appearance of two true leaves, the plant dives.

Here you should pay attention to the fact that mallow has a delicate taproot, which cannot be damaged during transplantation. Therefore, it is advisable to dive the mallow into the cups.

Seedlings in cups will grow until May, until the threat of frost passes and the seedlings get stronger. Plants are planted in open ground at a distance of 50 cm.

Care

Pick in the phase of 2 leavesYou will not need much trouble to care for stock roses. For the plant to be strong, lush and healthy, it needs to be fed with a complex of fertilizers. In addition, it is required to carry out their timely weeding and watering. Stock-rose is a rather tall plant and it may be necessary to additionally strengthen it by tying it to a support. It is advisable to make the support from natural materials, so they will look more organic in the flower garden and not distract attention from the beauty of the flower.

We must not forget about pests. A common disease that mallow suffers from is rust. Brown spots affect the leaves of the flower and lead to their death.Thickened plantings, poor soil, excess moisture are the causative agents of this disease. To prevent the disease, the flower must be treated with a fungicide.

    Mallow is a very beautiful plant. It has long been growing in every yard. Even now, mallow adorns many flower beds, but, however, new original varieties have appeared. I also love mallow very much, I have been growing them in the country for many years. I plant it near the fence, it serves as a support. For the first time from this article I learned that the literary name for mallow is stock-rose. I've never heard this before.

    Please tell me, this year I planted stock-roses, they gained a small root system, but did not bloom (as I understand it, there will be flowering in the second year). The question is, is it possible, and if so, when to transplant it to another place. If I transplant it in the spring, then it will bloom or not

      Most likely, you have come across a biennial plant that blooms in its second year. As for the transplant, most flower growers do not recommend disturbing the planted rose stem once again, since it has a long stem. It is easy to damage it when digging up, besides, the plant does not tolerate frequent transplants very badly.
