Photos and names of varieties of indoor violets (part 1)

Uzambara violets, which appeared in the collections of flower growers in the USSR a little more than fifty years ago, have changed dramatically during this time. If our mothers and grandmothers rejoiced at the appearance of simple purple, pink or white flowers, today on the windowsills next to blooming pelargoniums, unique lithops luxurious fantasy violets of all shapes, sizes and shades flaunt.

Sometimes, studying the modern names and photos of varieties of indoor violets, it is difficult to assume that these are direct descendants of the humble inhabitants of the South African mountain forests.

Violet African Night

Large rosettes of violets African night is easy to recognize among many of the brightest and most unusual plants. Violet Pink watercolor is rightfully one of the most popular. Large semi- or double white flowers have airy petals wavy along the edge with light, really pink watercolor strokes in the center. Among the varieties of Saintpaulias all over the world, plants of P. Sorano selection are well known. The same breeder produced a variety with double blue-violet flowers and dark wavy foliage. This violet Blue dragon is recognizable not only by the enormous size of the corolla, but by the green border on the ruffled petals.

Violet Black Pearl

The spectacular violet Black Pearl, in the photo, was bred by E. Korshunova and received many flattering reviews both at exhibitions of Saintpaulias and from ordinary lovers of these plants. The variety is distinguished by the size of large double star-shaped flowers, and their rich velvet color, with tints of purple and purple hues. The rosette is formed in standard sizes, the foliage is dark green, oval, on long strong petioles.

When the Black Pearl violet reproduces, growers sometimes encounter unusual mutations, sometimes leading to the production of flowers that are unique in beauty, as in the photo.

Violet Firebird

The violet Darling bred by K. Morev will appeal to both beginners and experienced flower growers. The main feature of the plant is large simple and semi-double star-shaped flowers. Salmon or pink corollas, wavy along the edge, which is emphasized by a delicate raspberry border. A light or completely white eye is visible in the center of the flower. The variety has a very lush flowering. Thanks to strong peduncles, even under the weight of many flowers, the cap does not fall apart.
