Sly summer residents do not rest in the fall

September has come. With the arrival of autumn, the main work on the site was completed. Harvesting is the most enjoyable job. Although the cunning summer residents are already taking care of the spring plantings and selecting seed material. How to properly prepare seeds for spring plantings is described in the article. How seeds are prepared for sowing

Having chosen the most ripe fruits, the gardener keeps them at home a little more until they fully ripen. Then, after removing the pulp from the seeds and rinsing with running water, they are dried in the open air.

Those that plan to plant in the spring are put in bags. In the middle of winter, the seed is hardened. To do this, they are placed in the freezer directly in bags for a couple of hours or buried in the snow.

Then each seed is glued with paste on toilet paper so that the distance between them is observed, required for planting. It is necessary to keep the seeds in this state until they are completely dry. After that, the paper is rolled up. Now you need to hide the seed material until spring in a dry, dark place.

In the spring, you will only need to spread the paper on a well-moistened bed and sprinkle it with earth. This will greatly speed up the planting process and reduce labor costs.

We dig horseradish and plant again

You need to dig horseradish in the fall in early October, when the lower leaves of the plant begin to turn yellow. Large roots are selected for use, cleaned of the earth and stored in boxes of dry sand in the cellar. You can put them in a paper bag and keep them in the bottom vegetable drawer of your refrigerator.

Small roots are cut into 30 cm each, tied into bunches and added to the same bed until spring. But if you want to save yourself the trouble of planting horseradish in the spring, you can plant these root trimmings already in October so as not to replant them in the spring.

Plant something in the winter - unload the work in the spring!

Many crops can be planted in autumn. This will give the plants an advantage. Indeed, with the first rays of the sun, the seeds begin to wake up. By the time other summer residents are just throwing their seeds into the ground that has dried up after snowmelt, the first shoots of the cunning summer residents are already green in the beds.

Seedlings 2 weeks earlier

True, there are some secrets here.

Seeds are planted when the air temperature is 1-3 degrees, since most seeds germinate already at +5. The best time for planting will be such a time that real frosts occur 5-9 days after it. If the seeds "wake up" in the fall and sprout, they will die with the onset of winter. This means that all the work will go to waste.

The process itself is as follows:

  1. The grooves for planting are prepared in October, carefully tamping the soil under them.
  2. At the same time, soil is stored in bags or boxes, which will be sprinkled with seed.
  3. Seeds are planted at a temperature of 1-3 degrees. In some cases, it is possible to carry out these works with the onset of frost, if the land has been prepared in advance for filling the seeds. Watering the beds is not worth it.
  4. From above, the seeds are sprinkled with pre-prepared soil, tamped again so that in the spring they are not washed out with melt water.

How to plant garlic

The mother's bottom is removed before landing! It is already dead and will only interfere with the formation of roots in young plants.

Garlic is planted before winter in the same way as seeds (it was described above) - in grooves prepared in advance with the onset of a cold snap. It is important to respect the planting depth.

There should be at least 3 centimeters of earth from the top of the clove to the surface.

Experienced experts advise to mulch garlic beds in winter so that melt water lingers at the planting site in the spring.

Autumn is the best time to plant trees

It is believed that it is in the fall and even at the beginning of a warm winter that you need to plant:

  • pears;
  • apple trees;
  • cherries;
  • frost-resistant plums;
  • currant;
  • gooseberry.

Planting can be done from mid-October to late November, sometimes in December.

It is important to remember: the seedlings must be fresh! Otherwise, there is a risk that they will not have enough strength to survive the winter frosts.

    My garden and vegetable garden work is in full swing in September! Perhaps more in May. You can relax towards the end of October. If it's not very cold yet, you can already drink mulled wine on the veranda ... We deserve it))
